Interlaminar fracture toughness: the long and winding road to standardization

Composites Part B: Engineering, 1998
Abstract The on-going efforts to achieve internationally accepted test standards for interlaminar fracture toughness over the past two decades will be reviewed. The status of current efforts to obtain an ISO standard for the Double Cantilever Beam test for mode I interlaminar fracture toughness will be highlighted.

Interlaminar fracture toughness for composite materials

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1993
Abstract A new equation for the energy release rate for a double cantilever beam specimen is proposed within the framework of the higher order shear deformable plate theory. The interlaminar fracture toughnesses (IFTs) found using the present theory, the ASTM round robin test method and the acoustic emission method are compared for thermoset graphite/

Interlaminar fracture toughness of a quasi 3D braided composite

Journal of Composite Materials, 2019
Fiber reinforced composite materials are a heavily sought after material for next generation vehicles for light-weighting components due to their high specific strength and stiffness. However, these materials have relatively weak interlaminar strength and are prone to delamination.

Interlaminar fracture toughness of aramid/epoxy laminates

Composites Science and Technology, 1993
The Mode I interlaminar fracture toughness of woven aramid-fibre/epoxy laminates has been investigated as a function of the fibre surface properties. Values of GIC were found to increase significantly with increasing crack length as a consequence of the presence of fibre bridging in the wake of the propagating crack.
