Modified Short Beam Shear Test for Measurement of Interlaminar Shear Strength of Composites

Journal of Composite Materials, 2003
A modified short beam shear test was proposed to measure interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of fiber reinforced carbon-carbon composites (CCC). The direct loading in the short beam shear (SBS) test is replaced by an indirect loading through a rubber pad and an aluminum seat.

Interlaminar Shear Strength of Cloth-Reinforced Composites

Experimental Mechanics, 1988
A test specimen to define the interlaminar shear strength of cloth-reinforced composite materials is developed. The specimen is a hollow circular cylinder which is subjected to torsion. The experiment is employed for the determination of the warp-normal shear strength of a graphite-fiber carbon-matrix composite material, It is demonstrated that the ...

Interlaminar shear strength of fibre-reinforced composites

Composites, 1975
Abstract An analysis is given of the stress distribution between two grooves cut on opposite faces of a fibre-reinforced composite when a tensile stress is applied to the ends. If this loading system is used to produce failure in shear, it has been shown that the fracture surface is always on the centre plane of the test piece.

Influence of porosity on the interlaminar shear strength of fibre-metal laminates

47th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference
14th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
7th, 2006
Structures manufactured in fibre-metal laminates (e.g. Glare) have been designed considering ideal mechanical properties determined by the Classical Lamination Theory. This means that among other assumptions, perfect bonding conditions between layers are assumed.

Aging Effects on the Interlaminar Shear Strength of High-Performance Composites

Journal of Aircraft, 2001
The effect of isothermal aging on interlaminar shear strengths of quasi-isotropic composites laminates were evaluated by using ASTM D 3846-94, Standard Test Method for In-Plane Shear Strength of Reinforced Plastics. Thermoset bismaleimide (IM7/5260) and thermoplastic polyimide (IM7/K3B) were investigated to determine the aging degradation in different ...

Acoustic Emission and Interlaminar Shear Strength

1986
Acoustic emission from glass cloth reinforced epoxy during interlaminar shear test has been studied in order to clarify the interlaminar properties. At liquid nitrogen temperature the serration was found on load-displacement curves which corresponds with step wise AE increase.
