Interlayers for diamond deposition on tool materials

open access: yes, 2022
S.299-303The direct deposition of diamond on such tool materials as hard metals and steels is difficult because graphitizattion occurs and adhesion is poor.

Defect Evolution and Mechanical Performance of Fused Filament Fabrication‐Manufactured 17‐4PH Stainless Steel Revealed by X‐Ray Computed Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography reveals how process‐induced defects evolve from green to sintered states in Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF)‐manufactured 17‐4PH stainless steel. Internal porosity, weakest cross‐sections, and fracture locations show strong correlation with tensile performance, demonstrating the potential of computed tomography (CT)‐based ...

Interlayer‐Mediated Stabilization of Metastable P63cm ScFeO3 on Al2O3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
The metastable P63cm phase of ScFeO3 has potential for multiferroic applications not possible in the ground state if stabilization routes can be identified.

Interlayer Affected Diamond Electrochemistry

open access: yesSmall Methods
AbstractDiamond electrochemistry is primarily influenced by quantities of sp3‐carbon, surface terminations, and crystalline structure. In this work, a new dimension is introduced by investigating the effect of using substrate‐interlayers for diamond growth.

Hybrid Metal–Carbon Ink for Printed Stretchable Temperature Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We prepare conductive inks for temperature sensing with silver flakes and carbon or graphite flakes in a silicone elastomer matrix. Silver dominates the temperature‐dependent conductivity, while the carbon filler network ensures the stability of the conductive pathways and retains function under strain.

Reactive Joining of Alumina by Oxidation of Al Interlayers

open access: yes, 2004
Al2O3 bars were butt-joined by brazing with thin Al interlayers. After brazing, an attempt was made to oxidize the Al interlayers to convert the metal to a crystalline ceramic.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

Influence of geosynthetic-interlayers on the performance of asphalt overlays on pre-cracked pavements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The functions of geosynthetic-interlayers in retarding reflection cracking and improving fatigue performance of hot mix asphalt (HMA) overlays in flexible pavements are evaluated in this study. The delamination or debonding mechanisms of the overlays are
