Parameter Estimation of Convolutional and Helical Interleavers in a Noisy Environment

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2017
Forward error correction (FEC) codes followed by an interleaver play a significant role in improving the error performance of the digital systems by counteracting random and burst errors.

Single‐subject designs in character education: Methods for rigorous, contextual, and practitioner‐led research

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Character education research is often constrained by blunt methodological tools. Surveys capture breadth without depth; case studies offer richness but lack replicability; and randomised controlled trials (RCTs), though indispensable at the policy level, are costly, disruptive and ill‐suited to everyday practice with individual pupils.

Efficient Multiple Concatenated Codes With Turbo-Like Decoding for UEP Wireless Transmission of Scalable JPEG 2000 Images

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Most multimedia source encoders produce scalable bit streams that are vulnerable to noisy channel effects. Unequal error protection (UEP) designs are attractive solutions for such scalable bit streams.

Children's food activism: Reflections on knowledge and responsibility

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Children as activists have become more prominent in recent years. Their activism is manifest in relation to conspicuously political topics such as Black Lives Matter, voting rights, being able to air their views or protesting against injustices related to race, culture and other identities. Less often, if at all, do children engage politically

A narrow bandgap Schottky heterojunction Fe2N/CeO2 microneedle triggering sonodynamic reactive oxygen species storm for drug‐resistance‐free skin fungal infection

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Inorganic sonosensitizers suffer from inefficient electron‐hole separation, rapid recombination, and wide bandgaps in anti‐fungal applications. We propose MN@Fe2N/CeO2 to directly eliminate fungi without drug resistance. Combining semiconductor CeO2's advantages with Fe2N's high work function and activity enables efficient Schottky heterojunctions ...

Design and Evaluation of Adaptive (Serial/Parallel) Concatenated Convolutional Codes

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2006
In this paper, parallel Concatenated Convolutional Codes (PCCCs) is modeled as a special case of Serial Concatenated Convolutional Code (SCCCs). Consequently, resulting in Adaptive (parallel/serial) concatenated convolutional code in which the same ...

Analysis and Optimization of P-LDPC Coded RGB-LED-Based VLC Systems

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
The goal of this paper is to study a well-performed coded modulation structure in visible light communication (VLC) systems equipped with red, green, and blue (RGB) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to provide tools for performance analysis and to give ...

Carbon‐Doped Amorphous Gallium Oxide Forms a Heterojunction With Water to Improve the Electrocatalytic Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
A dynamic catalyst–H2O heterojunction (CWH) forms on ACG during OER, with periodic bubble evolution modulating band bending and interfacial charge transfer. Electron–radical coupling drives the generation of •OH/•O2− species, converting Ga2O3 into GaOOH, whereas surface CO32− from C doping stabilizes the interface, suppressing catalyst dissolution and ...

Caving‐enhanced geothermal system overwhelms fracturing‐ and pipe‐enhanced geothermal system in heat extraction

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Our study reveals that caving‐enhanced geothermal systems (C‐EGS) with adequately fractured reservoirs achieve optimal heat extraction by minimizing preferential flow paths, while conventional fracturing (F‐EGS) and pipe‐based (P‐EGS) systems suffer accelerated thermal drawdown.
