Relating interleaving and Fréchet distances via ordered merge trees [PDF]
Merge trees are a common topological descriptor for data with a hierarchical component, such as terrains and scalar fields. The interleaving distance, in turn, is a common distance for comparing merge trees.

Interleaved Group Products [PDF]
Let $G$ be the special linear group ${SL}(2,q)$. We show that if $(a_1,\ldots,a_t)$ and $(b_1,\ldots,b_t)$ are sampled uniformly from large subsets $A$ and $B$ of $G^t$, then their interleaved product $a_1 b_1 a_2 b_2 \cdots a_t b_t$ is nearly uniform over $G$. This extends a result of the first author [W. T. Gowers, Combin. Probab. Comput., 17 (2008),

Interleaving as Cultural Technique in the Audio CD and the End of Archaeophonography
This article discusses a significant if imperceptible feature of how audio compact discs (CDs) inscribe sound: interleaving. It shows how CDs materialize interleaving—the microtemporal re-ordering of data—as a cultural technique of contemporary digital ...

On the spread of random interleavers [PDF]
For a given blocklength we determine the number of interleavers which have spread equal to two. Using this, we find out the probability that a randomly chosen interleaver has spread two. We show that as blocklength increases, this probability increases but very quickly converges to the value $1-e^{-2} \approx 0.8647$. Subsequently, we determine a lower

Concurrency coverage criteria for activity diagrams
Existing coverage criteria for Unified Modeling Language (UML)‐based system design have used mostly structural constructs and sequential‐behavioural coverage criteria. However, concurrent‐behavioural coverage criteria are not sufficiently explored.

Pulsed Interleaved Excitation [PDF]
In this article, we demonstrate the new method of pulsed interleaved excitation (PIE), which can be used to extend the capabilities of multiple-color fluorescence imaging, fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCCS), and single-pair fluorescence resonance energy transfer (spFRET) measurements.

Understanding interleaved code [PDF]
Complex programs often contain multiple, interwoven strands of computation, each responsible for accomplishing a distinct goal. The individual strands responsible for each goal are typically delocalized and overlap rather than being composed in a simple linear sequence. We refer to these code fragments as being interleaved.

Robust MMSE Precoding Strategy for Multiuser MIMO Relay Systems with Switched Relaying and Side Information [PDF]
In this work, we propose a minimum mean squared error (MMSE) robust base station (BS) precoding strategy based on switched relaying (SR) processing and limited transmission of side information for interference suppression in the downlink of multiuser ...

Eukaryotic genomes are pervasively transcribed but until recently this noncoding transcription was considered to be simply noise. Noncoding transcription units overlap with genes and genes overlap other genes, meaning genomes are extensively interleaved. Experimental interventions reveal high degrees of interdependency between these transcription units,

Interleaving data and effects [PDF]
Abstract The study of programming with and reasoning about inductive datatypes such as lists and trees has benefited from the simple categorical principle of initial algebras. In initial algebra semantics, each inductive datatype is represented by an initial f -algebra for ...
