Aramid Nanofiber Aerogels: Versatile High Complexity Components for Multifunctional Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Different forms of aramid nanofibers (ANFs) and especially aerogels from them, offer a sustainable route to high‐performance biomimetic nanocomposites. Due to the cartilage‐like architecture, ANF‐based materials enable breakthroughs in energy, electromagnetic, biomedical, and water purification technologies.

Unlocking NIR‐II Photoluminescence in 2D Copper Tetrasilicate Nanosheets through Flame Spray Synthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A flame‐spray‐pyrolysis method is presented to synthesize ultra‐bright CTS nanosheets with tunable NIR‐II emission. Achieving quantum yields up to 34%, these materials support high‐speed imaging and enable super‐resolution in vivo applications such as transcranial microcirculation mapping and macrophage tracking.

Not Just Winds: Why Models Find That Binary Black Hole Formation Is Metallicity-dependent, while Binary Neutron Star Formation Is Not

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Both detailed and rapid population studies alike predict that binary black hole (BHBH) formation is orders of magnitude more efficient at low metallicity than high metallicity, while binary neutron star (NSNS) formation remains mostly flat with ...

Desperately Seeking Intermediate-Mass Black Holes

open access: yes, 2009
Observational searches for Intermediate Mass Black Holes (IMBHs), defined to have masses between 30 and 300,000 solar masses, provide limits which allow up to ten percent of what is presently identified as halo dark matter to be in the form of IMBHs.
