High speed photometry of faint Cataclysmic Variables: IV. V356 Aql, Aqr1, FIRST J1023+0038, Ha 0242-2802, GI Mon, AO Oct, V972 Oph, SDSS 0155+00, SDSS 0233+00, SDSS 1240-01, SDSS 1556-00, SDSS 2050-05, FH Ser

open access: yes, 2004
We present results from high speed photometry of a further thirteen faint cataclysmic variables. V356 Aql (Nova Aql 1936) shows flare-like outbursts with recurrence time scales ~ 3000 s, but no coherent periodicities. Aqr1 is an intermediate polar with a

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Classifying Optical (Out)bursts in Cataclysmic Variables: The Distinct Observational Characteristics of Dwarf Novae, Micronovae, Stellar Flares, and Magnetic Gating

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Cataclysmic variables can experience short optical brightenings, which are commonly attributed to phenomena such as dwarf novae outbursts, micronovae, donor flares, or magnetic gating bursts.

X-Ray Observations of VY Scl-Type Nova-Like Binaries in the High and Low State

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2015
Four VY Scl-type nova-like systems were observed in X-rays both during the low and the high optical states. They are BZ Cam, MV Lyr, TT Ari, and V794 Aql.

IGR J00234+6141 : a new INTEGRAL source identified as an Intermediate polar

open access: yes, 2007
Following an extensive survey of the galactic plane by the INTEGRAL satellite, new hard X-ray sources are discovered with a significant fraction of Cataclysmic Variables (CVs) among them.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Modeling visual performance differences 'around' the visual field: A computational observer approach.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2019
Visual performance depends on polar angle, even when eccentricity is held constant; on many psychophysical tasks observers perform best when stimuli are presented on the horizontal meridian, worst on the upper vertical, and intermediate on the lower ...

IPHAS J062746.41+014811.3: a deeply eclipsing intermediate polar

open access: yes, 2012
We present time-resolved photometry of a cataclysmic variable discovered in the Isaac Newton Telescope Photometric Halpha Survey of the northern galactic plane, IPHAS J062746.41+014811.3 and classify the system as the fourth deeply eclipsing intermediate

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Two-Dimensional Electron Gas in Thin N-Polar GaN Channels on AlN on Sapphire Templates

open access: yesCrystals
We report on 2-dimensional electron gases realized in binary N-polar GaN channels on AlN on sapphire templates grown by metal–organic vapor phase epitaxy.
