1RXSJ062518.2+733433: A bright, soft intermediate polar [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2003
We present the results of 50 hours time-resolved R-band photometry of the ROSAT all-sky survey source 1RXSJ062518.2+733433. The source was identified by Wei et al. (1999) as a cataclysmic variable.

CC Sculptoris: A superhumping intermediate polar [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2012
We present high speed optical, spectroscopic and Swift X-ray observations made during the dwarf nova superoutburst of CC Scl in November 2011. An orbital period of 1.383 h and superhump period of 1.443 h were measured, but the principal new finding is ...

Magnetospheric Structure of the Intermediate Polar [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 1994
The structure of the magnetic funnel element in the intermediate polar is considered in terms of an important site for the X-ray absorption and the reemission of the X-ray as the optical light.

PALOMA: A MAGNETIC CV BETWEEN POLARS AND INTERMEDIATE POLARS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2016
ABSTRACT We present analyses of archival X-ray data obtained from the XMM-Newton satellite and optical photometric data obtained from 1 m class telescopes of ARIES, Nainital of a magnetic cataclysmic variable (MCV) Paloma. Two persistent periods at 156 ± 1 minutes and 130 ± 1 minutes are present in the X-ray data, which we interpret as ...

V1432 Aql: A polar or an intermediate polar? [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2003
We present evidence for a spin period of 4070 s in a magnetic cataclysmic variable V1432 Aql, classified as a polar. The evidence is based on the analysis of archival X-ray data obtained from a 25 ks long and uninterrupted observations with XMM-Newton.

The power of intermediate polars [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1999
We construct a simplified multicomponent model for the line and continuum emission from accretion funnels and shocks in intermediate polars, which encapsulates the essential physics of the various processes involved. The model is used to calculate the optical and X-ray power spectra for conditions appropriate to disced and discless intermediate polars.

The Intermediate Polars [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
AbstractRecently discovered intermediate polars extend the limits of known behaviour. They now fill the range between, and overlap with, nonmagnetic CVs and AM Hers. They have a wide range of asynchronism, a full range of field strengths, and several different accretion modes and pulsation mechanisms.

The Intermediate Polars [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1983
Until 1976, cataclysmic variable star research proceeded with few requirements for the inclusion of magnetic fields in theoretical models. Although models for low-mass X-ray binaries stressed the importance of magnetic fields (Lamb et at. 1973) and there was an increasing number of known magnetic single white dwarfs (Angel 1977), and a magnetised white

Unveiling Topic-Remnant Elided Polar Questions

open access: yesBorealis: An International Journal of Hispanic Linguistics, 2023
This paper offers an in-depth analysis of a novel elliptical construction Spanish, dubbed Topic-Remnant Elided Polar Questions (or polar TREQs in short).
