Asymmetries around the visual field: From retina to cortex to behavior.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2022
Visual performance varies around the visual field. It is best near the fovea compared to the periphery, and at iso-eccentric locations it is best on the horizontal, intermediate on the lower, and poorest on the upper meridian.

Is T Leonis a superoutbursting intermediate polar?

open access: yes, 2004
We present an XMM-Newton analysis of the cataclysmic variable T Leo. The X-ray light curve shows sinusoidal variation on a period P_x equal to 0.89^{+0.14}_{-0.10} times the previously spectroscopically determined orbital period.

Solving the kilo-second QPO problem of the intermediate polar GK Persei [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We detect the likely optical counterpart to previously reported X-ray QPOs in spectrophotometry of the intermediate polar GK Persei during the 1996 dwarf nova outburst. The characteristic timescales range between 4000--6000 s.

Effects of Weight Loss on Vascular Function in Obese Individuals with Poor Cardiovascular Health: Design and Research Protocol of an Interventional Clinical Trial

open access: yesArtery Research, 2020
Introduction: Excessive adipose tissue is associated with adverse metabolic effects and is an important risk factor for chronic diseases. According to the American Heart Association, most cardiovascular events can be prevented by adhering to healthy ...

Excitation of transient lobe cell convection and auroral arc at the cusp poleward boundary during a transition of the interplanetary magnetic field from south to north [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2001
We document the activation of transient polar arcs emanating from the cusp within a 15 min long intermediate phase during the transition from a standard two-cell convection pattern, representative of a strongly southward interplanetary magnetic field (

Accretion Disc Formation in Intermediate Polars [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
The large-scale accretion flow in the intermediate polars (IPs) is still a matter of vigorous debate. It is known that the magnetic field of the white dwarf (WD) controls the accretion flow close to the surface, channeling the plasma onto the polecaps and giving rise to X-ray emission modulated at the WD spin period (Pspin).

The emission-line pulse pattern in the intermediate polar RX J0558 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We observed the intermediate polar RX J0558+53 with the 4.2m WHT and find in the pulsed emission lines, a ``corkscrew'' pattern, which indicates a two-pole white dwarf accretion.

Polarized-deuteron stripping reaction at intermediate energies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics E, 2016
A general analytical expressions for the cross-section and the polarization of nucleons arising in the inclusive deuteron stripping reaction have been derived in the diffraction approximation. The nucleon–nucleus phases were calculated in the framework of Glauber formalism and making use of the double-folding potential.

LIM kinase1 regulates mitotic centrosome integrity via its activity on dynein light intermediate chains [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Biology, 2018
Abnormal centrosome number and function have been implicated in tumour development. LIM kinase1 (LIMK1), a regulator of actin cytoskeleton dynamics, is found to localize at the mitotic centrosome. However, its role at the centrosome is not fully explored.

Suzaku Observation of the Intermediate Polar V1223 Sagittarii

open access: yes, 2011
We report on the Suzaku observation of the intermediate polar V1223 Sagittarii. Using a multi-temperature plasma emission model with its reflection from a cold matter, we obtained the shock temperature to be 37.9^{+5.1}_{-4.6} keV.
