X-ray confirmation of the intermediate polar HTCam [PDF]
We report on the first pointed X-ray observations with XMM-Newton and RXTE satellites of the X-ray source RXJ0757.0+6306 = HT Cam. We detect a strong 515 s X-ray modulation confirming the optical photometric period found in 1998, which definitively ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Dynamic hydrogen bonds promote C–H functionalization driven by Cl− anion
Most of studies for hydrogen bonds focus on the static model especially between two polar atoms. In contrast, introducing the third polar atom may emerge the competitive hydrogen bonds, which would represent a distinct perspective to perturb the ...

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

First crystal structure of a Pigment Red 52 compound: DMSO solvate hydrate of the monosodium salt
Pigment Red 52, Na2[C18H11ClN2O6S], is an industrially produced hydrazone-laked pigment. It serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of the corresponding Ca2+ and Mn2+ salts, which are used commercially for printing inks and lacquers.

Effect of high pressure on multiferroic BiFeO3
We report experimental evidence for pressure instabilities in the model multiferroic BiFeO3 and namely reveal two structural phase transitions around 3 GPa and 10 GPa by using diffraction and far-infrared spectroscopy at a synchrotron source.

Importance of initial and final states as intermediate states in two-photon spectroscopy of polar molecules [PDF]
Two-photon transitions may proceed via a mechanism not involving virtually excited intermediate states. This mechanism may account for the largest contribution to the 2-photon cross section in polar mols.

The magnetic moments of intermediate polars [PDF]
Une relation entre la luminosite et la periode de spin a l'equilibre des polaires intermediaires est utilisee pour determiner les valeurs du moment magnetique de la maine blanche dans chaque systeme.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Recent results on intermediate polars
I review recent activity in the field of intermediate polars, concentrating on: the mode of accretion (disc-fed, disc-overflow or discless); accretion curtains (the transition region and the accretion footprint); X-ray pulse profiles (occultation and absorption effects); accretion columns (mass determinations, line-broadening, the soft X-ray component),
