Analysis of temperature distributions in surface grinding with intermittent wheels
The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2013An analytical model was established to calculate the curve of temperature distributions in surface grinding with intermittent wheels. In order to predict the numbers of the pulses imposed on the fluctuating temperature profile, a new quantity, the dynamic number of wheel segments in the grinding zone, was defined.

Force modeling and machining characteristics of the intermittent grinding wheels
KSME International Journal, 2001In the surface grinding operations, the grinding fluid cannot be supplied sufficiently in the cutting zone. Temperature generated in the cutting zone increases rapidly and causes thermal damage such as burning on the surface of a workpiece. To reduce thermal damage, the intermittent grinding wheels, which have an excellent cooling effect, have been ...

Temperature investigation of coated workpieces in intermittent grinding with a cup wheel
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B: Journal of Engineering Manufacture, 2011The effective width of the moving heat source is presented and the shape of the grinding block is simplified in order to use the traditional heat source model in modelling flat grinding with a cup wheel. Both triangular and rectangular heat source models are presented and compared with experimental results.

Intermittent grinding of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) utilizing a developed segmented wheel
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2011Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are relatively new and promising materials for many high-technology engineering applications in harsh and severe environments due to their superior properties. Despite being mostly at the development phase, CMCs have some very successful applications in several high technology fields. However, in spite of all advantages,

Some Aspects of Flat Surface Grinding with Intermittent Cross-Feed
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1979Part I: A Wheel Wear Mechanism. Using a constant maximum grit-force hypothesis for a fixed wheel-work combination, a stable and progressive wear-land model is developed as a function of the machine settings and its mechanical and thermal limitations are discussed. Experiments conducted with several wheel-work materials, both during dry and wet grinding
