Intermodalism is the coordinated application of different modes of transport that has changed global logistics by optimising efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and reducing environmental impact. This approach offers the advantages of each mode, such as rail, road, sea, and air, to enhance the transportation of commodities and passengers from origin to ...

Intermodal blocking in honeybees
The Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology B, 2001Previous findings of intramodal but not of intermodal blocking in foraging honeybees prompted a new series of experiments with colours, odours, a proximal visual landmark, and a localized geomagnetic anomaly as stimuli. In Experiments 1-2, the landmark was blocked by both colour and odour.

Sustainable Intermodal Train Transport
2018Increasing the share of intermodal transport is a promising way to reduce CO2 emissions. This chapter examines the key drivers increasing the share of rail-based intermodal freight transport in Europe. The institutional theory is used to identify the drivers, and the literature is reviewed to categorize the main external and internal drivers that could

Multimodal, Intermodal and Terminals
2017This chapter is focused on how to measure the operational performance of rail freight terminals in a framework of integrated transportation network. In an increasingly competitive and commercialised world, there is an increasing demand to be able to rank transport options and routes in some way.

Infants’ intermodal numerical knowledge
Infant Behavior and Development, 2018Two-system theory as the dominant approach in the field of infant numerical representation is characterized by three features: precise representation of small sets of objects, approximate representation of large magnitudes and failure to compare small and large sets.
