Research on passenger intermodality

2016 IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Engineering (ICITE), 2016
As the important part of the comprehensive transportation service system, the intermodal passenger transport can bring the comparative advantage of all sorts of travel transportation into full play and improve the transportation efficiency and service standards. It is an important point of promoting the comprehensive transportation construction.

Multimodal, Intermodal and Terminals

2017
This chapter is focused on how to measure the operational performance of rail freight terminals in a framework of integrated transportation network. In an increasingly competitive and commercialised world, there is an increasing demand to be able to rank transport options and routes in some way.

The Combination of Mega Intermodal Freight Trains (MIFTs) and Mega Intermodal Hub (MIH) for Intermodal Transport

CICTP 2012, 2012
It is challenging for the transportation industry to balance transport costs and carbon emissions. However, intermodal transport is viewed as a modal which can effectively improve transportation capacity and reduce carbon emissions. The aim of this research is to explore the combination of mega intermodal freight trains (MIFTs) and Mega Intermodal Hubs

Gateways and intermodalism

Journal of Transport Geography, 1998
Abstract With their massive transhipment, major seaports in Europe can generate scale economies to operate intermodal transport cost effective to numerous destinations with high frequency. In that way, the ports seem to be able to stimulate intermodal transport and open new markets beyond their traditional hinterlands. The growing container transport

The Intermodal Trailer Assignment Problem

Transportation Science, 1995
The problem of optimally assigning highway trailers to railcar hitches in intermodal transportation is studied. An integer-linear programming formulation is constructed. The problem is formulated using set covering. The resulting formulation is very small, and possesses in practice a tight linear programming relaxation.

Intermodalism

Intermodalism is the coordinated application of different modes of transport that has changed global logistics by optimising efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and reducing environmental impact. This approach offers the advantages of each mode, such as rail, road, sea, and air, to enhance the transportation of commodities and passengers from origin to ...
