Intermolecular Forces

1984
Knowledge of the intermolecular potential for simple (i.e. monatomic) molecules has increased greatly in recent years. For polyatomic molecules, on the other hand, such knowledge is still rather meagre, and much more is needed. One needs to know (i) what is the pair potential? (ii) how important are the triplet and other multibody potentials in liquids?

Subpiconewton Intermolecular Force Microscopy

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1997
We refined scanning probe force microscopy to improve the sensitivity of force detection and control of probe position. Force sensitivity was increased by incorporating a cantilever with very low stiffness, 0.1 pN/ nm, which is over 1000-fold more flexible than is typically used in conventional atomic force microscopy.

Osmosis and intermolecular force

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1984
A hypothesis concerning the molecular-dynamical basis of osmosis is presented. According to this hypothesis, osmosis results from the attractive force between solute and water molecules, and the exclusion of the solute from the water transport channels of the membrane. Based on this hypothesis, the osmotic process is predicted to involve a large number

Intermolecular Forces

This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of various types of Intermolecular forces and their influence on the physical and chemical properties of compounds. The primary focus includes Hydrogen bonding, Dipole-dipole forces, and London dispersion forces, as well as their correlation with boiling point, melting point, solubility, and ...

Atomic Force Microscopy Measurements of Intermolecular Binding Forces

2009
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements of intermolecular binding strength between a single pair of complementary cell adhesion molecules in physiological solutions provided the first quantitative evidence for their cohesive function. This novel AFM-based nanobiotechnology opens a molecular mechanic approach for studying structure- to function ...
