From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Engineering room‐temperature phosphorescence in purely organic materials through isomeric molecular packing and intermolecular interactions

open access: yesFlexMat
Achieving control over room‐temperature phosphorescence (RTP) performance through delicate molecular engineering and intermolecular interactions is of great significance for advancing RTP research. In this study, a series of isomers containing up to four

In Situ Amidation‐Derived Interfacial Modulation for Homogeneous Ultra‐High Nanoparticle Loading Toward Robust and Flexible Piezoelectric Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synergistic interfacial strategy between inorganic ceramic fillers and polymer chains effectively inhibit particle aggregation and interfacial incompatibility. complex covalent and non‐covalent interfacial interactions promote superior uniformity, ultra‐high ceramic filler loading, and strong grain‐to‐grain connectivity, thereby enabling the ...

Beyond the Edge: Charge‐Transfer Excitons in Organic Donor‐Acceptor Cocrystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Complex excitonic landscapes in acene–perfluoroacene cocrystals are unveiled by polarization‐resolved optical spectroscopy and many‐body theory. This systematic study of a prototypical model system for weakly interacting donor–acceptor compounds challenges common views of charge‐transfer excitons, providing a refined conceptual framework for ...

Molecularly Engineered Highly Stable Memristors with Ultra‐Low Operational Voltage: Integrating Synthetic DNA with Quasi‐2D Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Molecularly engineered memristors integrating Ag nanoparticle–embedded synthetic DNA with quasi‐2D halide perovskites enable ultra‐low‐operational voltage, forming‐free resistive switching, and record‐low power density. This synergistic integration of customized DNA and 2D OHP in bio‐hybrid architecture enhances charge transport, reduces variability ...

Intermolecular Covalent Interactions

open access: yes, 2021
This thesis reports detailed quantum chemical investigations on the nature and strength of intermolecular interactions in DmZ•••A– complexes, mediated via atoms Z of groups 15–17 in the periodic table, based on quantitative Kohn-Sham molecular orbital theory.

Intermolecular interaction potential maps from energy decomposition for interpreting reactivity and intermolecular interactions

open access: yesPhysical Chemistry Chemical Physics
Traditionally, potential maps, including electrostatic potential (ESP), have been used to visualize the distribution of various molecular properties about a molecule, revealing key interactions. However, electrostatic effects are often insufficient for capturing the entirety of an interaction or reaction of interest.

Atomic‐Level Ionic Displacement Polarization Enhanced Piezocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in Covalent Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two isomorphic COFs were synthesized and compared, including an amphoteric COF (SQ‐TAPT) and a neutral COF (PDA‐TAPT). The ionic bonds in SQ‐TAPT introduce more Born effective charges, thereby enhancing its ionic displacement polarization. Experimental and theoretical calculations demonstrated that SQ‐TAPT exhibited higher polarity and stronger ...

Theory of Intermolecular Interaction

open access: yesBulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, 2002
Abstract The method of orbital interaction describing the intermolecular interaction is reformulated in terms of Green’s function. The eigen-values and eigen-vectors for individual molecules obtained by block diagonalization of the original Hamiltonian, are sufficient to predict the next step of the reaction.
