STUDY OF OUTCOME AND COMPLICATIONS OF ANORECTAL MYECTOMY IN CHILDREN WITH ULTRASHORT SEGMENT HIRSCHSPRUNG’S DISEASE [PDF]

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2006
The term ultra short is not clearly defined in ultrashort-segment Hirschsprung’s disease. The limited extent of the ultrashort-segment Hirschsprung’s disease allows for treatment with extended sphincteromyectomy.

Equine botulism

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Botulism is a severe and often fatal disease in equine patients worldwide. Clostridium botulinum is a ubiquitous soil organism which produces a potent neurotoxin resulting in neuromuscular blockade and flaccid paralysis in affected animals. Definitive diagnosis is often impractical or impossible, leading to diagnosis and treatment based on ...

Validating gut flushing as a non‐lethal sampling technique for diet monitoring in agastric fish

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Non‐lethal diet sampling is essential where individual‐level monitoring and welfare matter, yet evidence on season‐long outcomes in agastric fishes is scarce. We tested syringe‐based gut flushing in pond‐reared common carp Cyprinus carpio over one growing season (April–September) using PIT‐tagged fish assigned a priori to three handling ...

Macroscopical and histological characterization of the perineal membrane and deep perineal pouch

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
The existence of the deep transverse perineal muscle remains controversial. While the macroscopic appearance of the tissue in the deep perineal pouch differs between men and women, the differences in the histological composition of this fibromuscular plate is still unclear.

Smooth Muscle Mechanosensitivity Generates and Maintains Pressure Gradients Across the Intestine

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
Mechanosensitivity of the smooth muscle induces a positive‐feedback loop that spontaneously generates pressure gradients across gut segments and stabilizes initially applied pressure gradients. It can act jointly or compete with the pressure gradient induced by directional peristaltic waves.

Consensus on the Management of Anesthetic Agents During Digestive Motility Measurements and Proposal of a Standardized Protocol for Anesthesia (French Neuro Gastroenterology Group GFNG and Committee of Anesthetic French Experts)

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
Anesthesia can alter measurements during digestive endoscopies, yet no standardized protocol currently exists. Two expert groups—the French Neuro‐Gastroenterology Group (GFNG) and anesthesiologists—used the Delphi method to reach a consensus on which drugs have an influence (91 amendments), ultimately resulting in a proposed anesthesia protocol (28 ...

Surgical Sphincter Saving Approach and Topical Nifedipine for Chronic Anal Fissure with Hypertonic Internal Anal Sphincter

open access: yesChirurgia, 2020
The role of augmented internal anal sphincter (IAS) tone in the genesis of posterior chronic anal fissure (CAPF) is still unknown. Lateral internal sphincterotomy is the most employed surgical procedure, nevertheless it is burdened by high risk post-operative anal incontinence.

Effect of internal and external cooling on high‐intensity intermittent cycling performance and cognitive function in the heat

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We investigated the effect of internal and external cooling on high‐intensity intermittent cycling performance and cognitive function in the heat. Twenty‐nine males completed a control trial (CON) and a cooling trial (ice slurry and ice collar; COOL) in the heat (33°C, 50% relative humidity) involving a 40 min intermittent cycling protocol ...
