Increases in skin perfusion and blood oxygen in the non‐exercising human limbs during exercise in the heat: Implications for control of circulation

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Blood flow in the inactive limb tissues and skin is widely thought to decline during incremental exercise to exhaustion due to augmented sympathoadrenal vasoconstrictor activity, but direct evidence to support this view is lacking. Here, we investigated the inactive‐forearm haemodynamic (Q̇forearm${\dot{Q}}_{\mathrm{forearm}}$) and oxygenation

Importância do ultra-som tridimensional na avaliação anorretal Importance of the tridimensional ultrasound in the anorectal evaluation

Whole‐body hot water immersion effect on cerebral haemodynamics and subsequent cerebrovascular reactivity to carbon dioxide

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract To test the hypothesis that hot water immersion (HWI) improves cerebrovascular function via shear‐mediated mechanisms, this study determined cerebrovascular reactivity to carbon dioxide (CVRCO2${\mathrm{CV}}{{\mathrm{R}}_{{\mathrm{C}}{{\mathrm{O}}_2}}}$) before and after 60 min of 39°C HWI and a 21°C air control (CON) in 15 healthy ...

Neural Control of the Internal Anal Sphincter Motility.

open access: yesJournal of Smooth Muscle Research, 2003
Control mechanism of smooth muscle movement of the internal anal sphincter (IAS) by enteric and extrinsic neuvous systems in the dog was investigated. Responses of IAS muscle strips to electrical field stimulation (EFS) and neurotransmitter agents were recorded in vitro. The contraction response to norepinephrine or to EFS was inhibited by phentolamine.

Cells and ionic conductances contributing to spontaneous activity in bladder and urethral smooth muscle

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Cells and conductances contributing to spontaneous activity in the lower urinary tract. Bladder and urethra exhibit spontaneous contractions at both cellular and tissue levels. Both detrusor and urethral smooth muscle cells display activity that is regular and rhythmic.

DO CHANGES IN ANAL SPHINCTER ANATOMY CORRELATE WITH ANAL FUNCTION IN WOMEN WITH A HISTORY OF VAGINAL DELIVERY?

open access: yesArquivos de Gastroenterologia
Objectives To evaluate anal sphincter anatomy using three-dimensional ultrasonography (3-DAUS) in incontinent women with vaginal delivery, correlate anatomical findings with symptoms of fecal incontinence and determine the effect of vaginal delivery on ...

Autologous Adipose Tissue Injection as Treatment for Ileoanal Pouch‐Related Fistulae

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 14, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Ileal pouch‐anal anastomosis (IPAA) is a standard surgical procedure for ulcerative colitis (UC) and familial adenomatous polyposis. However, pouch‐related fistulae (PRF) are a significant complication. There is no consensus on the optimal treatment for PRF.

Clinical, functional and morphologic evaluation of patients undergoing lateral sphincterotomy for chronic anal fissure treatment. Identification of factors that can interfere with fecal continence

open access: yesJournal of Coloproctology, 2014
Objective: Evaluate clinical, functional and morphologic outcomes of lateral sphincterotomy for chronic anal fissure treatment, and correlate the findings with factors that influence in the anal continence. Method: In a prospective study, female patients

Improved taxonomic and gene sampling advance the knowledge of deep relationships within Macrodasyida (Gastrotricha)

open access: yesCladistics, Volume 42, Issue 1, Page 25-45, February 2026.
Abstract Advances in Macrodasyida (Gastrotricha) phylogenetics, fuelled by new species discoveries and molecular data, are reshaping taxonomic classifications. Molecular analyses suggest polyphyly in Cephalodasyidae and Macrodasyidae, yet insufficient sampling continues to obscure precise relationships.

Correlation of anorectal electromanometry and anorectal three-dimensional ultrasound findings in patients with fecal incontinence

open access: yesJournal of Coloproctology, 2015
Objective: To show the correlation of anorectal electromanometry and three-dimensional anorectal ultrasonography in patients with fecal incontinence. Method: Prospective study involving 34 women (mean age: 55 years) with a diagnosis of fecal incontinence.
