Ballistic Missiles and International Conflict

Journal of Conflict Resolution, 2012
Governments are concerned about the dangers posed by ballistic missiles. However, there is almost no theoretical or empirical scholarship on ballistic missiles. This article presents and tests the conventional wisdom that the spread of ballistic missiles makes conflict more likely.

The internal ballistics of airguns

2017 International Conference on Military Technologies (ICMT), 2017
The paper is focused on the development of a thermodynamic mathematical model describing the internal ballistic phenomena, taking place within working chambers of an airgun. The objective is to derive a governing equation modeling the change of gas temperature in a control volume subsuming several incoming and outgoing mass airflow rates.

Atlatl Internal Ballistics

The Physics Teacher, 2019
An atlatl or spearthrower is perhaps humanity’s oldest technology for accelerating projectiles. The dynamics prior to launch of the dart projectile have been much discussed in the literature. In this article we present a simple new model of launch dynamics and show that dart flex is not an important factor in determining launch speed, but it increases ...

Modeling internal ballistics of gas combustion guns

International Journal of Legal Medicine, 2015
Potato guns are popular homemade guns which work on the principle of gas combustion. They are usually constructed for recreational rather than criminal purposes. Yet some serious injuries and fatalities due to these guns are reported. As information on the internal ballistics of homemade gas combustion-powered guns is scarce, it is the aim of this work

The internal ballistics of a supergun

Applied Scientific Research, 1959
In a recent paper, Jain and Sodha 1) have discussed the internal ballistics of a supergun (Hochdruckpumpe) designed by Coenders 2) during the second world war. In the present paper it is shown that their theory is the same as that for the burning of moderated charges in an orthodox gun (Kapur 3) 4)) and that their implicit assumption of the powder in ...

Internal ballistic considerations in hybrid rocket design

2nd Propulsion Joint Specialist Conference, 1966
This paper outlines methods for calculating the ballistic behavior of hybrid propellant combinations. The effects of scaling, pressure level, and internal geometric configuration are examined, utilizing a machine analysis that is based upon heat-transfer-limited theory.

The Combustion Problem of Internal Ballistics

Nature, 1933
IN a recent paper on the combustion problem of internal ballistics1, we have attributed jointly to Love and Pidduck2 a statement as to the importance of including both temperature and pressure in the rate of burning law for colloidal propellants.

Star-grain rocket motor – nonsteady internal ballistics

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2004
The nonsteady internal ballistics of a star-grain solid-propellant rocket motor are investigated through a numerical simulation model that incorporates both the internal flow and surrounding structure. The effects of structural vibration on burning rate augmentation and wave development in nonsteady operation are demonstrated.

Wound ballistics and international agreements

2011
All the international agreements related to the effects of military firearms came into being during the second half of the 19th Century, which is exactly when these weapons and the associated ammunition were undergoing their period of most rapid development. This is no coincidence; the agreements had to be drawn up in response to the developments.
