Moduli Forces in String Models with Large Internal Dimensions

open access: yes, 1999
We estimate the strength and range of forces mediated by string moduli in type I string models with two (or more) large internal dimensions. We find that forces mediated by twisted moduli which live on the brane world--volume can mediate forces which are

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Energy Splitting Theorems for Materials with Memory

open access: yes, 2009
We extend to materials with fading memory and materials with internal variables a result previously established by one of us for materials with instantaneous memory: the additive decomposability of the total energy into an internal and a kinetic part ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Pernicious anemia presenting with dysphagia and melanoderma: a confusing manifestation

open access: yesFuture Science OA
Vitamin B12 deficiency is widely recognized as a common cause of anemia. However, symptoms such as dysphagia, melanoderma, and pancytopenia, although less frequent, can also be associated with this deficiency.

Urgent Measures at a Prehospital Stage in Battle Trauma

open access: yesОбщая реаниматология, 2006
The wide application of blasting ammunition has lead to an increase in the number of combined and multiple injuries whose specific feature is extensive anatomic destruction with profound functional and metabolic disorders, profuse blood loss, shock ...

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Endoscope disinfectant-induced colonic pseudolipomatosis: case series of a rare condition

open access: yesFuture Science OA
Aim: Colonic mucosal pseudolipomatosis is a rare and benign endoscopic finding with distinct macroscopic and histological characteristics. Case series: We observed a form of unprecedented colitis in eight patients in a 3-month period.

How to excite the internal modes of sine-Gordon solitons

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate the dynamics of the sine-Gordon solitons perturbed by spatiotemporal external forces. We prove the existence of internal (shape) modes of sine-Gordon solitons when they are in the presence of inhomogeneous space-dependent external forces ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.
