Effect of granular shape on angle of internal friction of binary granular system

Fuel, 2015
Abstract The study of angle of internal friction (ΦI) is widely prevalent due to its importance in science and engineering, and yet the quantitative description concerning the effect of granular shape on the ΦI is few. In our study, the influence of granular shape on the ΦI of various binary granular systems was investigated theoretically and ...

Angle of Internal Friction for Pond Ashes

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2000
Abstract Thermal power stations use pulverized coal as fuel, producing enormous quantities of ash as a waste product of combustion. Nearly 800 million metric tons of ash is produced each year all over the world. In India, presently 97 million metric tons of ash is produced annually by power stations.

Geomechanical modelling of fault-propagation folds: Estimating the influence of the internal friction angle and friction coefficient

Tectonophysics, 2021
Abstract The interplay between faulting and folding mechanisms has been recognised in extensional and contractional settings. Numerous investigations have documented that the analysis of structural aspects of fault-related folds is important for the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon resources and in seismic data interpretation.

Prediction of Angle of Internal Friction Based on SPT N Values

2021
The present study focused to estimate the angle of internal friction (ɸ) of cohesionless soil and cohesive (c-ɸ) soil considering field standard penetration test (SPT) data. Based on the SPT data an empirical correlation has been established between standard penetration number N and internal friction angle to predict the friction angle of soils.

ANGLE OF INTERNAL FRICTION AND COHESION OF CONSOLIDATED GROUND MARIGOLD PETALS

Transactions of the ASAE, 2001
This study was conducted to determine the effect of particle size (0.36 and 0.84 mm), moisture content (12 and 21% MC, dry basis), and addition of flow enhancer (0% and 3% of tricalcium phosphate) on angle of internal friction and cohesion of consolidated ground marigold petals.

Internal Friction Angles: Characterization Using Biaxial Test Simulations

1997
The internal angles of friction for cohesionless assemblies of particles under compression were determined using molecular dynamics type simulations of biaxial tests. The objective was to determine appropriate internal friction angles to be used for continuum modelling of broken ice covers on waterways.

Angle of repose and internal friction

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1966
Abstract The relation between angle of repose and angle of internal friction in a fragmented mass is discussed, and experiments with crushed rocks are reported. It is concluded that the angle of repose is not generally the angle of internal friction of the material in the pile, but of the same material in a more closely packed condition.

INTERRELATION OF SHEAR ANGLES, EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL FRICTION DURING CHIP FORMATION

2020
The aim is to develop a methodology for graph-analytical calculation of the shear angle during the formation of chips for the case when the initial data are reliable empirical dependencies for the components of the cutting force. The research methodology is based on the application of elements of cutting theory to the scheme of chip formation and the ...

Drained angle of internal friction from direct shear and triaxial compression tests

International Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 2016
The angle of internal friction of sands from direct shear tests and plane strain tests is reported to be higher by about 2–8° compared to the triaxial compression tests. However, information about the comparison for the case of fine grained soils is scarce in the literature.
