Stochastic resonance as a collective property of ion channel assemblies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
By use of a stochastic generalization of the Hodgkin-Huxley model we investigate both the phenomena of stochastic resonance (SR) and coherence resonance (CR) in variable size patches of an excitable cell membrane.

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Effect of internal limiting membrane peeling on functional and structural outcome of pars plana vitrectomy for Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sharif Medical & Dental College, 2015
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of internal limiting membrane peeling on visual acuity and structural macular surface anatomy in patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

A Surgical Technique for Optic Pit Maculopathy: Vitrectomy Combined with Reversed ILM flap

open access: yesBeyoglu Eye Journal, 2016
This report is a description of a surgical technique for optic disc maculopathy (OPM). Pars plana vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, reverse ILM flap insertion into optic pit, and gas tamponade surgery was performed on 5 ...

Rates and equilibria at the acetylcholine receptor of electrophorus electroplaques. A study of neurally evoked postsynaptic currents and of voltage-jump relaxations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Kinetic measurements are employed to reconstruct the steady-state activation of acetylcholine [Ach] receptor channels in electrophorus electroplaques. Neurally evoked postsynaptic currents (PSCs) decay exponentially; at 15°C the rate constant, α, equals ...

Holographic QCD with Topologically Charged Domain-Wall/Membranes

open access: yes, 2008
We study the thermodynamical phase structures of holographic QCD with nontrivial topologically charged domain-wall/membranes which are originally related to the multiple $\theta$-vacua in the large $N_c$ limit.

WASH and Tsg101/ALIX-dependent diversion of stress-internalized EGFR from the canonical endocytic pathway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Stress exposure triggers ligand-independent EGF receptor (EGFR) endocytosis, but its post-endocytic fate and role in regulating signalling are unclear. We show that the p38 MAP kinase-dependent, EGFR tyrosine kinase (TK)-independent EGFR internalization ...

Domain associated with zinc fingers‐containing NF90‐NF45 complex inhibits m6A modification of primary microRNA by suppressing METTL3/14 activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
NF90–NF45 functions as a negative regulator of methyltransferase‐like 3/14 (METTL3/14)‐mediated N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) modification on primary microRNAs (pri‐miRNAs). NF90–NF45 binds to anti‐oncogenic pri‐miRNAs and inhibits their m6A modification, thereby suppressing the biogenesis of anti‐oncogenic miRNAs.

Physico-chemical requirements and kinetics of membrane fusion of flavivirus-like particles. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Flaviviruses deliver their RNA genome into the host-cell cytoplasm by fusing their lipid envelope with a cellular membrane. Expression of the flavivirus pre-membrane and envelope glycoprotein genes in the absence of other viral genes results in the ...

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...
