Influence of load carrying on loads in internal spinal fixators
Journal of Biomechanics, 2000After spinal stabilization with an implant, patients want to know whether carrying loads will endanger their spine and their implant. Therefore, the effect of carrying a weight on the loading of internal spinal fixation devices was determined in 10 patients using instrumented, telemeterized internal fixators. Patients carried a 5kg dumbbell in one hand

Internal and External Training Load: 15 Years On [PDF]
Exercise is a stressor that induces various psychophysiological responses, which mediate cellular adaptations in many organ systems. To maximize this adaptive response, coaches and scientists need to control the stress applied to the athlete at the individual level. To achieve this, precise control and manipulation of the training load are required. In

Internal phosphorus loading in shallow Danish lakes
Hydrobiologia, 1999High phosphorus concentrations due to internal loading from the sediment with a strongly negative impact on lake water quality, is often seen in shallow lakes after a reduction of external loading. To analyse the nature of internal loading we studied 1. the seasonal phosphorus concentrations of 265 Danish shallow, mainly eutrophic lakes; 2.

International industry practice on power system load modelling
2014 IEEE PES General Meeting | Conference & Exposition, 2013Power system load modeling is a mature and generally well researched area which, as many other in electrical power engineering at the present time, is going through a period of renewed interest in both industry and academia. This interest is fueled by the appearance of new non-conventional types of loads (power electronic-based, or interfaced through ...

Internal explosive loading of steel pipes
Thin-Walled Structures, 2008Abstract A programme of numerical, analytical and experimental studies is being carried out at the University of Liverpool on seamless steel pipes 9.5 mm thick with an outer diameter of 324 mm which have been subjected to internal explosive loading.

On Biaxially Loaded Internal Cracks
International Journal of Fracture, 2001The initiation of fracture is studied for an internally cracked large plate. The cracked plate is subjected to biaxial loading with different ratios of the normal load to the lateral load. The initiation of crack propagation is predicted by using a strain based mechanism of fracture.

Wind Loading Codes: International Users' Perspectives
Structures 2004, 2004Most buildings are designed using wind loading codes rather than wind tunnel testing. This paper discusses some of the experiences of using a range of international codes in an international design practice. A comparison of wind loads predicted by a range of wind loading codes for two building types, a city centre tall building and an isolated low-rise

Phosphorus accumulation in sediments and internal loading
Hydrobiological Bulletin, 1986Two simple conceptual approaches for the description of phosphorus accumulation and release from sediments are presented. The first model is a mass-balance over the well-mixed top-layer, and demonstrates the enhanced initial effect of sediment dilution on the long-term accumulation, which is magnified in the resulting internal loading, as a consequence

Using Multiple Load Vehicles for Internal Transport with Batch Arrivals of Loads
1999In previous papers, we used a simulation model to look at how different dispatching rules can be classified, and at the effects on the performance of internal transport if the release time of loads can be forecasted using a virtual release time. We concluded that centralized rules outperform decentralized rules and that the performance of internal ...

Internal Load Distribution Effects During Fatigue Loading of Composite Laminates
1986Two fundamental processes govern the reduction of strength and stiffness of composite laminates caused by cyclic loading, commonly called the “fatigue effect.” One process is the reduction of the strength and stiffness of the individual constituent materials in the composite, caused by events such as localized nonconservative deformation, microcrack ...
