정치참여에는 다양한 유형이 존재하며 각 유형마다 행동이 촉발되는 심리적 기제가 다를 것이다. 이 연구의 목적은 내적효능감과 정부신뢰라는 두 요인과 정치참여의 관계를 제도적 참여(투표)와 저항적 참여(시위), 그리고 표현적 참여(인터넷 토론) 세 유형별로 살펴보는 것이다. 분석 결과, 투표참여를 유발함에 있어서 가장 중요한 조건은 정당일체감의 강도였고 내적효능감이나 정부신뢰는 영향을 주지 않았다.
