Detailed study of the hysteresis loops for annealed amorphous alloy wires having vanishing magnetostriction [PDF]
The evolution of Barkhausen events during the magnetization process in current and furnace annealed Co-based amorphous wire having vanishing magnetostriction, /spl lambda//sub s/, is reported. Their origin is explained using the core-shell model commonly

KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (

dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Internal Stresses and Formation of Switchable Nanowires at Thin Silica Film Edge
At vertical edges, thin films of silicon oxide (SiO_{2-x}) contain semiconductive c-Si layered nanocrystals (Si NC) embedded in and supported by an insulating g-SiO2 matrix. Tour et al. have shown that a trenched thin film geometry enables the NC to form

A study of the porosity of nuclear graphite using small-angle neutron scattering [PDF]
Small angle neutron scattering (SANS) measures porosity in nuclear graphites, including both open pores, caused by escaping decomposition gases, and internal cracks (in coke particles) generated by anisotropic thermal contraction along the c-direction ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Soft Listeria: actin-based propulsion of liquid drops [PDF]
We study the motion of oil drops propelled by actin polymerization in cell extracts. Drops deform and acquire a pear-like shape under the action of the elastic stresses exerted by the actin comet.
