Robotic Internal Thoracic Artery Harvesting

Surgery Today, 2007
Great progress has been made in robotic surgery, and several reports on robot-assisted coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) have been published. Our team at Kanazawa University began using the da Vinci Surgical System (Intuitive Surgical, Sunnyvale, CA, USA) in 2005.

Internal Thoracic Artery: To Skeletonize or Not to Skeletonize?

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2005
The internal thoracic artery has been the most reliable graft material used in coronary artery bypass grafting with an excellent long-term patency rate. Complete myocardial revascularization with internal thoracic arteries improves long-term survival and decreases the rate of repeat operations compared with vein grafts.

Internal thoracic artery for coronary artery grafting in octogenarians

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1996
Use of the left internal thoracic artery as a bypass graft has been shown to result in better long-term patency and improved survival. In elderly patients, the internal thoracic artery has been used less often for coronary artery bypass grafts because of the belief that greater morbidity and mortality are associated with this procedure.

Antioxidant Properties of the Internal Thoracic Artery and the Radial Artery

Heart, Lung and Circulation, 2008
The antioxidant properties of blood vessels contribute to their performance and patency of that vessel when used as a bypass conduit. Despite increased use of the radial artery (RA) in recent years, very little is known about its antioxidant properties.

Longitudinal histomechanical heterogeneity of the internal thoracic artery

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2021
The internal thoracic artery (ITA) is the principal choice for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) due to its mechanical compatibility, histological composition, anti-thrombogenic lumen, and single anastomotic junction. Originating at the subclavian artery, traversing the thoracic cavity, and terminating at the superior epigastric and musculophrenic

Pathological analysis of the radial and internal thoracic artery

International Journal of Angiology, 1998
To evaluate the usefulness of the radial artery (RA) as a graft material for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), histologic studies of the RA were performed and compared with the internal thoracic artery (ITA). Specimens were obtained from both ends of 12 RAs and the distal side of the ITA during the operation.

Protective wrapping of the internal thoracic artery

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1999
Injury of a patent internal thoracic artery bypass graft in a patient during cardiac reoperation could have catastrophic results. In selected patients who have primary coronary artery bypass grafting using the internal thoracic artery, we wrap the artery pedicle with an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membrane to facilitate identification and to ...

Bilateral internal thoracic arteries

2021
In an attempt to obtain more robust scientific evidence as to whether bilateral internal thoracic artery grafting offers a survival benefit over single internal thoracic artery grafting, the Arterial Revascularisation Trial (ART) enrolled 3102 patients between June 2014 and December 2017 in 28 centres in seven countries.

Bilateral internal thoracic arteries

Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2017
To provide a broad overview of the current state of knowledge of coronary artery bypass grafting with bilateral internal thoracic artery (BITA).There exists a large body of literature from mostly observational studies supporting the use of BITA in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting but selection bias is a major issue with nonrandomized

Accessory internal thoracic artery

Anatomia Clinica, 1982
An accessory internal thoracic artery, a branch of the internal thoracic artery was found in 1.6% of 60 cadavers. Its course and characteristics are described and its possible practical importance in certain clinical and surgical conditions, as well as for correct interpretation of angiograms is stressed.
