Airport image: An exploratory study of McCarran International Airport

Internalization of airport congestion

Abstract This paper analyzes the internalization of airport congestion by nonatomistic carriers. It is shown that, in allocating traffic between the peak and off-peak periods, a monopolist fully accounts for the effect of congestion on passenger time costs, while also taking account of its impact on his own operating costs. During a seven-year period 49 individuals were brought by police to the County Hospital for psychiatric observation from nearby San Francisco International Airport. All of these individuals were severely disturbed. Generally they were acting out, psychotic individuals characterized by paranoia, anxiety, and euphoria.
