Aviation and the European Union Emission Trading System: A Bibliometric and Thematic Review
ABSTRACT Aviation is generally recognized as one of the most carbon intensive forms of transport. In order to tackle aviation's environmental impact, in 2012 the sector has been (partially) included in the European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS), a market‐based mitigation mechanism designed to put a price on carbon emissions and create an ...

A 2025 field campaign, based in Iceland, successfully deployed micro‐dropsonde sensors from stratospheric balloons in the Arctic. Atmospheric profiles were retrieved from a variety of data‐sparse regions. The campaign demonstrates the feasibility and value of balloon‐borne systems for enhancing Arctic observation and forecasting capability.

ABSTRACT Air transport is one of the fastest‐growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions, yet it remains one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonize. The sector's climate impact is amplified by two factors: the steady rise in passenger demand and the absence of commercially viable low‐carbon technologies for long‐haul flights.

Abstract Understanding the coastal zone of the Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS), where it interacts with the Southern Ocean and warmer air masses, is crucial for predicting Antarctica's influence on the global climate and sea level. This region has multiple tipping mechanisms that could trigger large, rapid, and potentially irreversible changes in the AIS ...

Space Weather Mitigation Decisions by Critical Infrastructure Operators During Solar Cycle 25
Abstract The “Gannon Storm” in May 2024 was the largest space weather event experienced in 20 years, generating auroras at latitudes as low as 35°, visible in Florida and Mexico. Such events pose significant operational challenges for critical infrastructure operators, particularly those managing electricity transmission networks, satellite ...
