Potential Use of Plant Waste from the Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis Sogo Yukidian “V3”) as an Antioxidant Source

open access: yesFoods, 2017
This research was conducted to exploit the waste of used plant parts from the widely marketed moth orchid cultivar (Phalaenopsis Sogo Yukidian “V3”). Various extracts of roots, stems, and leaves were evaluated for total phenolics, total flavonoids, and ...

Observations on international cooperation [PDF]

open access: yesPlasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1988
The motives for international cooperation and some reasons for engaging in such activities are considered. The author presents some thoughts on the European Community and on JET. Some cooperative programmes within EURATOM or in International Energy Agency are described. The TEXTOR toroidal pump limiter project is discussed in some detail.

Lyophilization process optimization and molecular dynamics simulation of mRNA-LNPs for SARS-CoV-2 vaccine

open access: yesnpj Vaccines, 2023
Some studies have shown that lyophilization significantly improves the stability of mRNA-LNPs and enables long-term storage at 2–8 °C. However, there is little research on the lyophilization process of mRNA-lipid nanoparticles (LNPs).

Transcatheter mitral valve replacement for degenerated mitral valve bioprostheses, failure of mitral valvuloplasty and native valve with severe mitral annulus calcification: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2021
Background Although transcatheter technology has achieved some success in the field of mitral valves, the feasibility of applying it to patients with degenerated mitral valve bioprostheses (valve-in-valve, ViV), failure of mitral valvuloplasty (valve-in ...

Baogong decoction treats endometritis in mice by regulating uterine microbiota structure and metabolites

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, 2022
Endometritis is persistent inflammation caused by bacteria, which can lead to infertility. Although traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used to treat endometritis, the underlying mechanism is still unclear.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Liver protects neuron viability and electrocortical activity in post-cardiac arrest brain injury

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine
Brain injury is the leading cause of mortality among patients who survive cardiac arrest (CA). Clinical studies have shown that the presence of post-CA hypoxic hepatitis or pre-CA liver disease is associated with increased mortality and inferior ...

1D U-Net Enhanced QEPAS Sensor for Trace Water Vapor Detection

open access: yesOptics
We report a deep learning-assisted quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS) sensor for trace water vapor detection in air. A 1392 nm butterfly-packaged DFB laser is wavelength-modulated at f0/2, and the QEPAS signal is retrieved by second ...
