Aid and Internal Migration in Malawi [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2021
This paper uses geographically disaggregated data to investigate the role of foreign aid as a pull factor for internal migration in Malawi over the period 1998-2008. Employing a standard gravity model of migration, we show a positive relationship between the volume of foreign assistance a district receives and the number of immigrants.

Impact of internal migration on population redistribution in Europe: Urbanisation, counterurbanisation or spatial equilibrium? [PDF]

open access: yesComparative Population Studies, [S.l.], v. 44, nov. 2019, 2019
The classical foundations of migration research date from the 1880s with Ravenstein's Laws of migration, which represent the first comparative analyses of internal migration. While his observations remain largely valid, the ensuing century has seen considerable progress in data collection practices and methods of analysis, which in turn has permitted ...

Investigating internal migration with network analysis and latent space representations: An application to Turkey [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Human migration patterns influence the redistribution of population characteristics over the geography and since such distributions are closely related to social and economic outcomes, investigating the structure and dynamics of internal migration plays a crucial role in understanding and designing policies for such systems.

Finally, we review the theoretical and empirical findings of the growing literature that analyzes the economic ...

One dimensional cell motility patterns [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Research 2, 033237 (2020), 2020
During migration cells exhibit a rich variety of seemingly random migration patterns, which makes unraveling the underlying mechanisms that control cell migration a daunting challenge. For efficient migration cells require a mechanism for polarization, so that traction forces are produced in the direction of motion, while adhesion is released to allow ...
