Vertical inhibition of p110α/AKT and N‐cadherin enhances treatment efficacy in PIK3CA‐aberrated ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3CA amplification and PIK3CA mutation enhance ovarian tumorigenicity through an activation of AKT, which phosphorylates YAP at Ser127. This Ser127 phosphorylation leads to the retention of YAP in the cytoplasm and triggers RAC1 activity, promoting cell migration. Additionally, AKT activation increases expression of N‐cadherin, which further enhances

A Practitioners’ Guide to Gravity Models of International Migration

open access: yes, 2016
The use of bilateral data for the analysis of international migration is at the same time a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing since the dyadic dimension of the data allows researchers to analyze many previously unaddressed questions in the ...

International Migration and International Trade [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
This chapter attempts to combine the literature concerning international trade and international migration into a consistent analytical framework. "Section 2 explains how different trade models account for either substitution or complementarity patterns between labor mobility and commodity trade....In Section 3 we analyze some dissimilarities between ...

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

The Complex Network Patterns of Human Migration at Different Geographical Scales: Network Science meets Regression Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Migration's influence in shaping population dynamics in times of impending climate and population crises exposes its crucial role in upholding societal cohesion. As migration impacts virtually all aspects of life, it continues to require attention across scientific disciplines. This study delves into two distinctive substrates of Migration Studies: the

International migration and “educated unemployment” [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Development Economics, 2007
This paper provides a novel explanation of “educated unemployment”, which is a salient feature of the labor markets in a number of developing countries. In a simple job-search framework we show that “educated unemployment” is caused by the prospect of international migration, that is, by the possibility of a “brain drain”.

SKA1 promotes oncogenic properties in oral dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma, and augments resistance to radiotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The mitosis‐related gene SKA1 was among 629 genes consistently dysregulated in OSCC across nine public gene expression datasets. In OSCC cell lines, SKA1 promoted proliferation and migration, enhanced radioresistance, and reduced radiation‐induced senescence.
