Assessing and Mapping of Road Surface Roughness based on GPS and Accelerometer Sensors on Bicycle-Mounted Smartphones

open access: yesSensors, 2018
The surface roughness of roads is an essential road characteristic. Due to the employed carrying platforms (which are often cars), existing measuring methods can only be used for motorable roads.

Analysis of the contour structural irregularity of skin lesions using wavelet decomposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The boundary irregularity of skin lesions is of clinical significance for the early detection of malignant melanomas and to distinguish them from other lesions such as benign moles. The structural components of the contour are of particular importance.

Upcycling of Disposable Face Masks into Water‐Resistant and Flame Retardant Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Disposable mask waste is upcycled into lightweight polypropylene‐based foams with tunable porosity and composite architectures reinforced by ear‐loop fibers. The sustainable solvent‐based process enables upcycling rates of 91% and solvent recovery of >90%.

Pavement Deterioration Model Using Markov Chain and International Roughness Index

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Abstract Pavement deterioration leads to drop in serviceability and possibly failure of pavement sections due to initiation and expansion of distresses such as cracks and rutting. This paper aimed at predicting the future condition of pavement sections based on Markov chain model and the international roughness index (IRI).

An Ultrafast Self‐Gelling Versatile Hydrogel for Rapid Infected Burn Wound Repair in Military Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐gelling PG@PAC (POD/Gel‐CDH@PA/CHX) powder is developed for infected burn care in austere settings. Upon contact with wound exudate, it instantly forms an adhesive hydrogel, providing simultaneous hemostasis, broad‐spectrum antibacterial activity, reactive oxygen species scavenging, and immunomodulation. In a murine model of S.

Developing International Roughness Index (IRI) Model from visible pavement distresses

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Abstract The pavement maintenance, rehabilitation, and design methodologies need an appropriate evaluation of the pavement functional condition. The roughness is generally recognized as a measure of the pavement functional capacity. The roughness of pavement is measured using IRI, which depends on the quantity of distresses existing on ...

Trap‐Assisted Transport and Neuromorphic Plasticity in Lead‐Free 2D Perovskites PEA2SnI4

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An artificial retina built from lead‐free layered perovskite (PEA)2SnI4 converts light input into a persistent photocurrent and sums successive flashes over time. Micro/nanocrystals integrated on electrodes act as synapse‐like pixels that perform temporal integration directly in hardware. This in‐sensor preprocessing merges detection and computation on

Fluorine‐Free Soft Nanocomposites for High‐Speed Liquid Impact Repellence

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorine‐free soft nanocomposite coatings are developed using silicone oil‐mediated mechanical‐stiffness control, enabling ‘dry’ liquid‐repellent surfaces that resist high‐speed water jet impacts up to ∼60 m/s. By tuning nanoparticle loading and oil content, the coatings also achieve >90% optical transparency, amphiphobicity with impact resistance to ...
