Heterogeneity of the Dominant Causes of Performance Loss in End‐of‐Life Cathodes and Their Consequences for Direct Recycling

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Direct recyling of Li‐ion battery materials promises a low‐cost path towards a secure domestic supply of critical materials for batteries. Using cathode material from an end‐of‐life commercial Li‐ion cell, this work identifies the primary degradation mechanisms that diminish the performance of directly reused cathode materials and includes a discussion

Nanoporous Films with Oriented Arrays of Molecular Motors for Photoswitching the Guest Adsorption and Diffusion

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 62, Issue 3, January 16, 2023., 2023
A regular array of oriented molecular motors is presented by incorporating overcrowded alkene molecules as linker in metal–organic framework thin films. By switching between the stable and metastable states, the adsorption and diffusion properties of the guest molecules are controlled. Abstract Molecular motors are fascinating nanomachines.

On adaptive timestepping for weakly instationary solutions of hyperbolic conservation laws via adjoint error control [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering 26 (2010),790-806, 2014
We study a recent timestep adaptation technique for hyperbolic conservation laws. The key tool is a space-time splitting of adjoint error representations for target functionals due to S\"uli and Hartmann. It provides an efficient choice of timesteps for implicit computations of weakly instationary flows.

International Law of Outer Space and its Effect on Commercial Space Activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The United Nations, through a series of five treaties, has created a body of international space law which controls the activities in space of states, international organizations, and private interests.

Private Commercialization of Space in an International Regime: A Proposal for a Space District [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Soviet Union inaugurated the Space Age in 1957 with the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik I, into the Earth\u27s orbit. Human activity in space, once only a dream, had become reality.

International Space Law and the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Space Technologies

open access: yesحقوق فناوریهای نوین, 2023
With the tremendous developments in space technologies in recent years, artificial intelligence is used instead of humans in decision-making. Artificial intelligence (AI) by the ability to think logically, manage its actions and correct its decisions ...

A “Cool” Route to Battery Electrode Material Recovery

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Ice‐stripping, a novel sub‐zero electrode delamination technique, enables >90% recovery of the electrode materials from manufacturing scrap and end‐of‐life batteries. Water is sprayed upon a porous electrode and quickly freezes when placed on a cold surface. The foil is peeled away, leaving behind the black mass with the morphology retained.
