On the visibility of word-internal morphological features

open access: yesling, 1997
In this paper I argue that word-internal morphological features can be visible. I present a case from Hebrew, where plural formation of feminine diminutive nouns is blocked due to features associated with an internal suffix. The feminine diminutive form yaldonet (little girl) consists of a base yeled (boy), a diminutive suffix -on, and a feminine ...

Resolving the Structural Duality of Graphene Grain Boundaries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Cantilever ncAFM resolves the atomic structure of grain boundaries in graphene, revealing coexisting stable and metastable types. Both contain pentagon/heptagon defects, but metastable GBs show irregular geometries. Modeling shows metastable GBs form under compression, exhibiting vertical corrugation, while stable GBs are flat.

Instant Visibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
International audienceWe present an online occlusion culling system which computes visibility in parallel to the rendering pipeline. We show how to use point visibility algorithms to quickly calculate a tight potentially visible set (PVS) which is valid ...

The influence of green design elements on the visibility of low-rise houses in hot and humid climate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
To achieve thermal comfort in the hot and humid climatic condition of Malaysia, house design utilizes architectural and landscape elements such as sunscreens, specific orientation of openings, and vegetation to reduce the indoor temperature. However, the

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Room‐Temperature Skyrmionic Synapse in 2D Ferromagnet Fe3GaTe2 Operating via Collective Spin Texture Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a neuromorphic synapse in 2D Fe3GaTe2 flakes. The device operates via a current‐driven transformation from a skyrmion‐lattice to a stripe‐domain state, yielding a linear anomalous Hall resistance response with a tunable slope to enable multiply‐accumulate operations. Simulations confirm its viability in artificial neural networks.

The 3D Visibility Complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
International audienceVisibility problems are central to many computer graphics applications. The most common examples include hidden-part removal for view computation, shadow boundaries, mutual visibility of objects for lighting simulation.
