IETF protocol suite for the Internet of Things: Overview and Recent Advancements [PDF]

open access: greenarXiv, 2020
Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly growing technological domain and the effort that many Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) and alliances are dedicating to it is constantly increasing. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is certainly one of the most active SDOs operating in this broad domain.

Cyberphysical Security for the Masses: A Survey of the Internet Protocol Suite for Internet of Things Security [PDF]

open access: greenIEEE Security & Privacy, 2019
As IoT deployments expand, IoT security lags infamously behind. This paper surveys IoT security protocols standardized by the IETF, maps protocols to regulatory IoT security guidelines (from ENISA), and discusses remaining gaps. We observe that, while IETF protocols alone do not completely secure IoT devices, they go a long way.

Large-Scale Performance Evaluation of the IETF Internet of Things Protocol Suite for Smart City Solutions

open access: closedProceedings of the 12th ACM Symposium on Performance Evaluation of Wireless Ad Hoc, Sensor, & Ubiquitous Networks, 2015
The Internet of Things (IoT) intends to interconnect massive amount of heterogeneous, smart devices, with the goal of interweaving the virtual world with the physical world. Smart Cities are typical IoT application domains, comprising networks with large number of sensors that survey environmental data in order to provide different services, such as ...
