No gender difference in cardiac interoceptive accuracy: Potential psychophysiological contributors in heartbeat counting task

open access: yesBMC Psychology
Gender differences in interoceptive awareness—awareness of internal bodily signals such as heartbeat perception—have been suggested, with some findings indicating behaviourally reduced but subjectively enhanced awareness in women, though these findings ...

Acute Clinical Effects of Dual‐Task Resistance Exercise on Muscle Endurance and Pressure Sensitivity in Patients With Carpal Tunnel Syndrome After Surgery

open access: yesMusculoskeletal Care, Volume 24, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the acute effect of a self‐regulated dual‐task during resistance exercise on muscular endurance, pain intensity and pressure pain threshold (PPT) in patients undergoing carpal tunnel release (CTR). Methods Participants were randomly assigned to resistance exercise combined with a self‐regulated cognitive task (dual‐task ...

Functional Connectivity During Social Reward Processing in Autistic and Neurotypical Adolescents

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Heightened task‐evoked functional connectivity was observed in autistic youth between the amygdala and the posterior superior temporal sulcus (pSTS), core regions of the social reward circuitry, on receipt of a social‐interactive reward. The strength of connectivity was negatively correlated with enjoyment of social interaction.

Regional Brain Activity Alterations in Social Anxiety Disorder Revealed by Seed‐Based d Mapping With Permutation of Subject Images

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
This SDM‐PSI meta‐analysis identified consistent regional brain activity alterations in social anxiety disorder, including hyperactivity in the left superior parietal gyrus, right cerebellum, and right supramarginal gyrus, and hypoactivity in the left insula and right supplementary motor area, with age and symptom severity modulating specific regions ...

Conscious cardiac awareness and interoceptive attention differentially modulate heartbeat-evoked neural dynamics

open access: yesNeuroImage
Heartbeat-evoked response (HER) is considered a neural correlate of interoceptive information processing. While HERs are modulated during interoception tasks, distinguishing the unique contributions of conscious cardiac awareness (the subjective ...

The Impact of BWM‐T Versus Brief Mindfulness Induction on Stress, Anxiety and Self‐Efficacy in University Students: Immediate and Short‐Term Outcomes of RCT on Psychological Well‐Being and Autonomic Balance

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background: University students face increasing levels of stress, anxiety, and self‐efficacy, which may disrupt autonomic balance. While many mind–body interventions require sustained practice, growing evidence suggests that even a single session can yield immediate benefits.

The Effectiveness of Psychological Treatment for Anorexia Nervosa in Adolescents: A Critical Review of Randomized Controlled Trials

open access: yesInternational Journal of Eating Disorders, Volume 59, Issue 5, Page 829-853, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Although international treatment guidelines for eating disorders recommend varying psychological approaches for adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN), most existing reviews have combined adolescent and adult samples, leaving the overall evidence base for this population poorly defined.

Effects of Interoceptive and Exteroceptive Attention Training on Desire-Driven Eating in Healthy Adults: A Quasi-Experimental Early-Stage Feasibility Study

open access: yesFoods
Interoceptive and exteroceptive awareness (awareness of bodily signals and sensory experiences) are increasingly recognised as important for guiding eating behaviour.

Clinical Outcomes After Temperament Based Therapy With Support (TBT‐S): A 12‐Month Naturalistic Follow‐Up Study

open access: yesEuropean Eating Disorders Review, Volume 34, Issue 3, Page 722-731, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study investigated clinical outcomes in a mixed sample of adult patients with an eating disorder (ED) after receiving Temperament Based Therapy with Support (TBT‐S) at a tertiary eating disorder clinic. Method A naturalistic 12‐month follow‐up study of 46 patients and 65 supports who received the 5‐day TBT‐S treatment was ...

Assessment on interoceptive awareness on alcohol use and gambling disorders reveals dissociable interoceptive abilities linked to external and internal dependencies: Practical use of Body Perception Questionnaire Very Short Form (BPQ‐VSF) in clinical settings

open access: yesNeuropsychopharmacology Reports
Interoception is one of the pivotal cognitive functions for mechanisms of our body awareness, and malfunction of the interoceptive network is thought to be associated with mental illness, including addiction.
