Ganglions of the Proximal Interphalangeal Joint
Orthopedics, 2000ABSTRACT Ganglions of the proximal interphalangeal joint are uncommon. Six patients (nine ganglions) were treated surgically. The lesions presented on the ulnar aspect of the extensor mechanism between the lateral band and the central slip and communicated with the joint by means of a stalk.

Proximal Interphalangeal Joint Arthroplasty
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1984Prosthetic implant arthroplasty of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint has a limited role in the reconstruction of the rheumatoid hand. Ninety-three PIP joint arthroplasties, including 56 Flatt, 30 Swanson, and seven Niebauer implants, were reviewed with postoperative follow-up periods averaging 6.2 years. The average maximum extension/flexion for

Arthritis of the Thumb Interphalangeal and Finger Distal Interphalangeal Joint
Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 2019The distal interphalangeal (DIP) joints are subjected to the highest joint forces in the hand, and at least 60% of individuals older than age 60 years have DIP joint arthritis. Debridement of degenerative distal interphalangeal joints with mild to moderate disease can provide satisfactory outcomes; however, those joints with more severe angular and ...

Dislocation of the Interphalangeal Joint of the Thumb
The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1981A case of open dislocation of the interphalangeal joint of the thumb is presented. The anatomy of the injury is discussed as well as treatment options. In the 26-year-old male patient reported, hyperextension and rotation of the distal phalanx resulted in volar plate avulsion and ulnar displacement of the flexor pollicis longus.

Hallux Interphalangeal Joint Arthrodesis
The Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, 2009Multiple osteotomies and forms of fixation have been proposed for arthrodesis of the hallucal interphalangeal joint. In this brief article, the authors present their preferred "V"-shaped osteotomy combined with the use of internal fixation to allow for intrinsic stability and compression across the fusion site.

CONTRACTURES OF THE PROXIMAL INTERPHALANGEAL JOINT
Hand Clinics, 1992Posttraumatic stiffness of proximal interphalangeal joints remains a difficult problem that severely compromises hand function. The emphasis of treatment must be on preventing the problem from developing, which begins within hours of the injury. Effective treatment involves a careful evaluation of the injury and then instituting a rational course of ...

Foot & Ankle, 1982
Since 1971, a cartilaginous sesamoid or nodule has been identified in the plantar ligament of the interphalangeal joint of the big toe in 29 of the 58 patients (50%) from whom spurs of the plantar medial aspect of the adjacent phalanges were removed because of painful callouses.

FRACTURES OF THE DISTAL INTERPHALANGEAL JOINT
Hand Clinics, 1994Displaced fractures at the distal end of the middle phalanx require reduction if function is to be restored at the distal joint. Fractures at the base of the distal phalanx take on additional significance because of the insertions of the flexor and extensor tendons.

CAPSULECTOMY OF THE INTERPHALANGEAL JOINTS OF THE FINGERS
The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1954A group of fifty patients, twenty-five of whom presented a limitation of extension of the fingers, and twenty-five a limitation of flexion of fingers, as a result of mechanical limitation at the interphalangeal joints, has been studied.
