This is a handbook on the physics of interplanetary dust, a topic of interest not only to astronomers and space scientists but also to engineers. The following topics are covered in the book: historical perspectives; cometary dust; near-Earth environment; meteoroids and meteors; properties of interplanetary dust, information from collected samples; in ...

DEX in near Earth orbit in light of Venus Orbiter Dust Experiment [PDF]
Study of IDP has been of interest to researchers for few decades, primarily after missions like Galileo, Ulysses, Cassini, Stardust and observations of comet, Hale-Bopp.

This chapter reviews how the polarization of light scattered by interplanetary dust has been used to determine some physical properties of the dust population in the interplanetary medium. Though optically thin, the interplanetary dust cloud is visible due to the faint glow (the zodiacal light) it produces at visible wavelengths through the scattering ...

Physical properties of cometary and interplanetary dust
In the absence of numerous in situ studies, physical properties of cosmic dust may be derived from observations of their light scattering and thermal properties, through numerical simulations making use of realistic assumptions.

Advances in observation and theory of interplanetary dust
Interplanetary dust is solid ejecta from various celestial bodies (e.g., comets and asteroids). They are ubiquitous in the solar system, and serve as one of the main constituents of the solar system.

Magnetopause displacements: the possible role of dust [PDF]
Large compressions of the magnetopause are proposed to occasionally result from temporary encounters of the magnetosphere with dust streams in interplanetary space. Such streams may have their origin in cometary dust tails or asteroids which cross the

Migration of Interplanetary Dust [PDF]
Abstract: We numerically investigate the migration of dust particles with initial orbits close to those of the numbered asteroids, observed trans‐Neptunian objects, and comet Encke. The fraction of silicate asteroidal particles that collided with the Earth during their lifetime varied from 11% for 100 micron particles to 0.008% for 1 micron particles.
