Interplanetary Magnetic Fields
Science, 1962Preliminary analysis of Mariner II magnetometer data indicates a persistent interplanetary field varying between a least 2 and 10 gamma (1γ = 10 -5 gauss). The interplanetary field appears to lie mainly in the ecliptic plane, although there is a substantial, fluctuating, transverse component.

Interplanetary magnetic fields
Reviews of Geophysics, 1979Within the past four years, significant scientific progress has been possible as a result of improvements in observations of the interplanetary field. First, the range of radial distances over which observations are available has been greatly extended; measurements have been made as near the Sun as 0.3 AU and as far away as 8.5 AU. Second, the range of

Interplanetary magnetic field and magnetospheric substorms
Planetary and Space Science, 1977The interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) changes and the associated responses of the magnetosphere on November 1, 1972, are examined. IMF Bz changes consisted of a sudden southward turning, a slow northward turning, and a subsequent steady northward sense. Magnetospheric substorms occurred throughout this period.

Counterelectrojet and interplanetary magnetic field
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1978About a dozen counterelectrojet events both in the afternoon and in the morning hours were compared with interplanetary magnetic field data. It was noticed that in three to four cases there was an association between counterelectrojets and an excursion of Bz from southward to northward.

The interplanetary magnetic field structure
Nature, 1976The seasonal bias in the sector structure of the interplanetary magnetic field has led to the suggestion that the field in each hemisphere of the solar cavity has the same polarity as the average magnetic field at the corresponding solar pole, and that the surface which separates the two polarity regions is only slightly warped.

Interplanetary Magnetic Field Dynamics
2001The role of the IMF in the dynamics of solar wind interaction with the geomagnetosphere was proposed by Dungey in 1961. Early in-situ IMF measurements in the 60's confirmed the association of the magnitude and direction of the IMF with the Kp magnetic activity index.
