Interpretation: The Space of Text

2013
Turning towards another kind of space, Richard Smith foregrounds ‘Interpretation: The Space of Text’ (Chap. 8). It is easy to forget that text too is an institutional space of educational research and one with distinctive forms in academic journal articles and books, forms that are often strange and less innocent than they appear at first reading.

Discourse spaces: A pragmatic interpretation of contexts

1995
In human interactions the context in which verbal and non-verbal acts are performed has a prime importance. In this paper we propose an approach emphasizing the cognitive dimension of contexts. Our basic assumption is that a human agent naturally uses contextual information because she cannot manipulate or communicate knowledge without positioning ...

Interpretable Numerical Descriptors of Amino Acid Space

Journal of Computational Biology, 2009
Informative numerical representations of amino acid residues are essential for successful in silico modeling or establishing the structure-activity relationships of proteins. A straightforward approach is adopted here for representing more than 500 amino acid indices from the AAindex database by a set of uncorrelated scales, satisfying the varimax ...

Geometric Interpretation of Space–Time

2014
Chapter 6 includes the geometrical representation of spacetime. After defining light cone, some possible and impossible world lines are graphically discussed. The relationship between spacetime diagrams in two different frames is also discussed in the chapter. Also, the geometrical representation of simultaneity, length contraction and time dilation is

Interpreting Smallest Space Analysis

Sociological Methods & Research, 1974
Two kinds of SSA (smallest space analysis) are distinguished: R-SSA, which uses as input a matrix of R-distance coefficients (distances among pairs of variables); and Q-SSA, which uses as input a matrix of Q-distance coefficients (distances among pairs of objects).

An interpretation of the isobaric spin space

Nuclear Physics, 1961
Abstract It is shown that the group of isobaric spin rotations is homomorphous with a certain group of Lorentz-invariant transformations of a 4 component spinor field. A simple interpretation of the isobaric spin operators of interacting fields as being quantities known from the Dirac theory seems possible.

Static Interpretation of Space-Time

1976
One of the most interesting aspects of relativity theory for the philosophical-minded consists in the fact that it gave new and surprising in-sights into the nature of time, of that mysterious and seemingly self- contradictory1 being which, on the other hand, seems to form the basis of the world’s and our own existence.
