TMC4 localizes to multiple taste cell types in the mouse taste papillae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Transmembrane channel‐like 4 (TMC4), a voltage‐dependent chloride channel, plays a critical role in amiloride‐insensitive salty taste transduction. TMC4 is broadly expressed in all mature taste cell types, suggesting a possible involvement of multiple cell types in this pathway.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Potential Improvements to National Park Service Visitor Surveys and Money Generation Modeling in Alaska [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study presents options for improving the use of the Money Generation Model in National Park Service (NPS) land units in Alaska. The Money Generation Model (MGM) is used nationwide to model economic impacts of visitation to public lands, including ...

Structures interpretable in models of bounded arithmetic

open access: yesAnnals of Pure and Applied Logic, 2005
\(S^i_0\) is a theory in the language \(\{+,\times, | \;| ,0,1,2\}\) corresponding to Buss' \(S^1_2\), but aiming at properties of models of arithmetic wit a top (with \(+\) and \(\times\) considered as relations). A typical model of \(S^1_0\) is an initial segment with a top of a model of \(S^1_2\).

Evaluation of in vitro toxicity of common phytochemicals included in weight loss supplements using 1H NMR spectroscopy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the toxicity of 12 active compounds commonly found in herbal weight loss supplements (WLS) using human liver and colon cell models. Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate was the only compound showing significant toxicity. Metabolic profiling revealed protein degradation, disrupted energy and lipid metabolism suggesting that the inclusion of EGCG ...

Athletics images interpretation using structural ontology model

open access: yesKKU ENGINEERING JOURNAL, 2013
The continual rapid growth in digital content acquisition and visualization makes it increasingly challenging to find, organize, and access visual information. Typically, image classification and retrieval systems tend to rely only on the lowlevel visual structure within images.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...
