Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Double point self-intersection surfaces of immersions

open access: yes, 2000
A self-transverse immersion of a smooth manifold M^{k+2} in R^{2k+2} has a double point self-intersection set which is the image of an immersion of a smooth surface, the double point self-intersection surface.

Frailty Exacerbates Disability in Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background To evaluate frailty in severe progressive multiple sclerosis (PMS) and to investigate the underlying mechanisms. Methods This prospective, cross‐sectional, multicenter study enrolled a late severe PMS group requiring skilled nursing (n = 53) and an age, sex, and disease duration‐matched control PMS group (n = 53).

Square-free numbers in the intersection of Lehmer set and Piatetski-Shapiro sequence

open access: yesAIMS Mathematics
Let $ q $ be a sufficiently large odd integer, and let $ c \in\left(1, \frac{4}{3}\right) $. We denote $ R(c; q) $ as the count of square-free numbers in the intersection of the Lehmer set and the Piatetski-Shapiro sequence.

Shared Genetic Effects and Antagonistic Pleiotropy Between Multiple Sclerosis and Common Cancers

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Epidemiologic studies have reported inconsistent altered cancer risk in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Factors such as immune dysregulation, comorbidities, and disease‐modifying therapies may contribute to this variability.

Milnor number and Tjurina number of complete intersections

open access: yesMathematische Annalen, 1985
Let (X,x) be an isolated complete intersection singularity of dimension \(n\geq 2\). The main result of this note is a formula for the difference of the Milnor number \(\mu\) (X,x) and dim \(T^ 1_{X,x}\) (the dimension of the base of a miniversal deformation of (X,x)). It is of the form: \(\mu(X,x)-\dim T^ 1_{X,x}=\sum^{n-1}_{p=0}h^{p,0}(X,x)+a_ 1+a_ 2+

Lived and Care Experiences of Chronic Musculoskeletal Shoulder Pain in Australian Adults: A Qualitative Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Australian evidence on lived and care experiences of chronic musculoskeletal shoulder pain (CMSP), irrespective of disorder classification or disease, is limited. However, such evidence is important for person‐centered care and informing local service pathways and care guidelines or standards.

A Qualitative Analysis of Patient Perspectives and Preferences in Lupus Management to Guide Lupus Guidelines Development

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective A patient‐centered approach for chronic disease management, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), aligns treatment with patients’ values and preferences, leading to improved outcomes. This paper summarizes how patient experiences, perspectives, and priorities informed the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2024 Lupus Nephritis (LN)

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Spectral flow and intersection number

open access: yesKyoto Journal of Mathematics, 1993
Let \(F= F(\mathbb{H})\) be the set of bounded Fredholm operators on a separable Hilbert space \(\mathbb{H}\) of infinite dimension. A subset \(\mathfrak F\) of \(F\) consisting of selfadjoint operators has three components: \({\mathfrak F}= {\mathfrak F}_ + +{\mathfrak F}_ - +{\mathfrak F}_*\) (\({\mathfrak F}_ +({\mathfrak F}_ -)\) consists of ...
