Rural Expressway Intersection Design Guidance

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2010
A rural expressway is a high-speed, multilane, divided highway with partial access control with both at-grade intersections and grade-separated interchanges. Many state transportation agencies are converting rural two-lane undivided highways into expressways for improved safety and mobility.

Intersectional Design Cards: Exploring intersecting social and environmental factors across four levels of design

Journal of Writing in Creative Practice, 2022
Tackling complex social justice and sustainability challenges through design calls for a more comprehensive understanding of a design context. This involves encouraging designers and non-designers alike to work together to recognise the implications of designing ‘beyond a product’.

Intersection Design Elements

2013
Intersections are a critical aspect of street design, the point where motorist, bicycle, and pedestrian movements converge. Successful intersection design addresses all mobility and safety goals as well as opportunities to enhance the public realm.

Designing for intersectional, interdependent accessibility

Communication Design Quarterly, 2019
Drawing on narratives (Jones, 2016; Jones & Walton, 2018) from bilingual technical communication projects, this article makes a case for the importance of considering language access and accessibility in crafting and sharing digital research.

A Call for Intersectional Healthcare Design Research

HERD: Health Environments Research & Design Journal, 2020
The majority of patient experience research has been conducted in culturally Western contexts without controlling for cultural and demographic variation. Designers are left with little choice but to apply contextually specific and demographically neutral research to a wide range of healthcare systems, cultural contexts, and demographic conditions.

Maximizing Intersection Capacity through Unconventional Geometric Design of Two-Phase Intersections

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2012
Typical four-phase, four-legged intersections often operate inefficiently and severely restrict vehicle throughput, and thereby cause large delays. These configurations are limited by traditional geometric design. Altering the geometry of the entire intersection can significantly increase the capacity.

Expressive Design: An Intersection of Design and Meaning

2021
Good product design is an appropriate balance of form, function, and value. As form becomes more and more commoditized, manufacturing materials and processes are easily accessible and technologies are less and less proprietary. Creating value has become a more significant component of the product development process.

Applicability of Unconventional Intersection Designs Over Pretimed Signalized Intersection Design Along a Coordinated Corridor

2019
The focus of this research is on evaluating the performance of three unconventional intersection designs [Michigan U-turn (MUT), superstreet, and continuous green T-intersection (CGT)] over existing pretimed signalized intersection design along Highway 49 in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
