Interspecies relations in science fiction movies and human international law

open access: closed, 2021
On Earth, interspecies relationships are mainly based on one rule: the fittest species (the human being) has the right to exploit other species at its own discretion. It can hunt, imprison, enslave and kill them. This is at the core of international trade law, which considers non-human animals as mere products destined to fulfil human needs.

Interspecies variation in the plasma halflife of oxytetracycline in relation to bodyweight

Research in Veterinary Science, 1990
The relationship between halflife (t1/2, minutes) of oxytetracycline and bodyweight (W, kg) between species of mammals and birds was examined using data collected from the literature. Linear regression of the logarithm of the halflife of the elimination phase of oxytetracycline following intravenous injection on the logarithm of bodyweight for a ...

Interspecies Modes of Relating

Society & Animals
Abstract Relational perspectives in Human-Animal Studies remain generally within a consecutive order, following a comparative approach from which insights about the relationship are then deduced in a successive step. The Special Issue turns to relationality instead as a specifically inter-subjective dynamic in the formation and ...

Interspecies variations in caffeine metabolism related to cytochrome P4501A enzymes

Xenobiotica, 1992
1. Interspecies (including man, monkey, rabbit, rat and mouse) variations in caffeine metabolism by liver microsomes were studied. While N-3 demethylation was the major pathway in man (81% of total dimethylxanthines), N-7 demethylation was predominant in monkey (89%), and the three demethylation pathways were about equal in mouse, rabbit and rat.

Evaluation of Highly Bound Drugs: Interspecies, Intersubject, and Related Comparisons

The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 2002
Free (unbound) drug is generally the pharmacologically relevant param eter for drug exposure. Thus, comparisons among species, among individuals, and in other situations such as cell culture or drug metabolism experiments in vitro should be based on free drug. Although the traditional focus has been on the absolute value for free drug, the applications

Interspecies comparisons of plasma half‐life of trimethoprim in relation to body mass

Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1997
The relationship between body mass and plasma half‐life of trimethoprim was studied in 10 different species of animals and man using published data. Log half‐life was positively and significantly correlated to log body mass based on individual measurements in herbivorous animals (n=23, P<0.01), in herbivorous animals+pigs (n=29, P<0.01), in ...
