The Effect of Ontogeny on Interspecific Interactions in Larval Amphibians
Ecology, 1991We used 3 x 2 x 2 factorial experiments in a temporary pond to assess the relative importance of predator density (0, 2, or 4 salamander larvae), prey density (20 or 40 tadpoles), and time of prey introduction (early or late) on interactions between predaceous larval salamanders (Ambystoma tigrinum) and their anuran prey (Pseudacris triseriata).

The effects of interspecific interactions on resource use and behavior in a desert ant
Oecologia, 2000We examined how interspecific competition in ants affects resource use and behavior. To test how neighboring Myrmecocystus colonies influence the desert ant Aphaenogaster cockerelli, we placed temporary enclosures around Myrmecocystus spp. colonies and recorded the resources collected by A. cockerelli and the numbers of A.

Interspecific Effects of Sex Pheromones in Fish
1992Goldfish and other teleosts use released hormones (steroids, prostaglandins) as sex pheromones (Sorensen and Stacey, 1990; Sorenson, Irvine, Scott and Stacey, 1992; Stacey and Sorenson, 1991) raising the question of whether such pheromones can be species-specific, given the limited chemical diversity of hormones.

Growth Inhibition in Crowded Tadpoles: Intraspecific and Interspecific Effects
Ecology, 1967Tadpoles are inhibited in growth when raised in water previously crowded by other larger tadpoles. The ‘alga—like’ cells described in earlier crowding studies were found in the fecal material and intestinal tracts of inhibited tadpoles. Results of 38 crowding experiments using 17 species of tadpoles show that the effects of the inhibitory cell are ...

Effect of disturbances and interspecific competition in isoetid populations
Aquatic Botany, 1994The size, fecundity, life history and mortality of Isoetes lacustris L. and Lobelia dortmanna L. were studied in wave-disturbed and sheltered habitats, as well as in aggregations of Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud., Sphagnum auriculatum Schimp. and in gaps between them.

EFFECT OF DAYLENGTH ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERSPECIFIC PENNISETUM HYBRIDS
1994Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L. Leeke) x napiergrass (P. purpureum Schum.) interspecific hybrids (PMN) have great potential as a forage crop in the tropics. The effect of daylength on the flowering of cytoplasmic-nuclear male sterile (cms) pearl millet Tifton 23 A4, and three napiergrasses (N14, N20, and N74) was determined in monthly plantings for

An investigation was made of the effects of reducing and enhancing the intensity of competition on a small marsupial, Antechinus stuartii, from a larger and competitively dominant congener, A. swainsonii. Populations of these species were monitored in two study areas (one control, one experimental) in forest near Canberra, Australia, between February ...

AbstractThe data used in studies of bivariate interspecific allometry usually violate the assumption of statistical independence. Although the traits of each species are commonly treated as independent, the expression of a trait among species within a genus may covary because of shared common ancestry.
