The abundant elements in interstellar dust

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1994
We explore the incorporation of the cosmically abundant species O, C, N, Mg, Si, Fe, and S into interstellar dust. Column densities based on Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph 3.5 km/s resolution measurements from the literature for eight individual absorbing regions toward five lines of sight are used.

Abundances of Chemical Elements in Open Star Clusters as Indicators of their Nature

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2015
Applying a compilled catalog, we find that the relative abundances of α-elements in open clusters and in field stars of the thin disk of the Galaxy show different dependencies on metallicity, age and parameters of their Galactic orbits.

The Chemical Composition of Cernis 52 (BD+31 640)

open access: yes, 2009
We present an abundance analysis of the star Cernis 52 in whose spectrum we recently reported the napthalene cation in absorption at 6707.4 {\AA}. This star is on a line of sight to the Perseus molecular complex.

Chemistry of NH2CH2CH2OH and Its Related Species in the Interstellar Medium

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
Ethanolamine (NH _2 CH _2 CH _2 OH) can form not only glycine directly under the conditions of proposed Archean alkaline hydrothermal vents, a possible environment for the origin of life, but also the polar hydrophilic head of phosphatidylethanolamine ...

Analysis of ultraviolet spectrophotometric data from Copernicus [PDF]

open access: yes
Ultraviolet spectral data from the OAO 3 satellite are being used to study interstellar absorption lines and stellar and circumstellar lines in hot stars.

Gas-grain models for interstellar anion chemistry

open access: yes, 2012
Long-chain hydrocarbon anions CnH- (n=4, 6, 8) have recently been found to be abundant in a variety of interstellar clouds. In order to explain their large abundances in the denser (prestellar/protostellar) environments, new chemical models are ...

Effect of Supernovae on the Local Interstellar Material

open access: yes, 2017
A range of astronomical data indicates that ancient supernovae created the galactic environment of the Sun and sculpted the physical properties of the interstellar medium near the heliosphere.

Photochemistry in the inner layers of clumpy circumstellar envelopes: formation of water in C-rich objects and of C-bearing molecules in O-rich objects

open access: yes, 2010
A mechanism based on the penetration of interstellar ultraviolet photons into the inner layers of clumpy circumstellar envelopes around AGB stars is proposed to explain the non-equilibrium chemistry observed in such objects.

Rapid Chemical Enrichment by Intermittent Star Formation in GN-z11

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We interpret the peculiar supersolar nitrogen abundance recently reported by the James Webb Space Telescope observations for GN-z11 ( z = 10.6) using our state-of-the-art chemical evolution models.

The 4He1H ratios in the chemical compositions of solar flare particles and the primordial solar nebula [PDF]

open access: yes
The chemical abundances of solar flare particles are similar to those of galactic cosmic rays at their sources. In order to infer the 4He/1H ratio in the solar atmosphere, this ratio as observed in the interstellar gases was considered in addition to ...
