Atomic and Molecular Phases of the Interstellar Medium [PDF]
This review covers four current questions in the behavior of the atomic and molecular interstellar medium. These include whether the atomic gas originates primarily in cold streams or hot flows onto galaxies; what the filling factor of cold gas actually is in galactic regions observationally determined to be completely molecular; whether molecular ...

Abundances in Diffuse Interstellar Clouds [PDF]
Interstellar clouds are concentrations of cold (T ≲ 100 K) neutral gas (cf. Spitzer 1978) which are immersed within an intercloud medium. It is worthwhile to distinguish between diffuse clouds (roughly those with E[B-V] ≳ 0.5) and dark clouds (those with E[B-V] ≳ 0.5). This distinction is useful in the sense that diffuse clouds are relatively warm (T ∼

Abstract Samples of B‐type asteroid (101955) Bennu returned by the Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security–Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS‐REx) spacecraft will provide unique insight into the nature of carbonaceous asteroidal matter without the atmospheric entry heating or terrestrial weathering effects associated with ...

Gravitational Interstellar Scintillation [PDF]
Gravitation could modulate the interstellar scintillation of pulsars in a way that is analogous to refractive interstellar scintillation (RISS). While RISS occurs when a large ionized cloud crosses the pulsar line-of-sight, gravitational interstellar scintillation (GISS) occurs when a compact gravitational deflector lies very near to that line-of-sight.

On the relationship between the continuum of interstellar extinction curves, the 2200 Å bump, and the diffuse interstellar bands [PDF]
A previous article argued that the antagonism between sight-lines with and without a bump at 2200 \AA\ disappears, and that the observed properties of interstellar extinction can be globally understood, if it is accepted that scattered starlight contaminates the observed spectrum of reddened stars.

Aditional Ultra-High-Resolution Observations of Ca+ Ions in the Local Insterstellar Medium [PDF]
We present ultra-high-resolution (0.35 km s−1 FWHM) observations of the interstellar Ca K line towards seven nearby stars. The spectral resolution was sufficient to resolve the line profiles fully, thereby enabling us to detect hitherto unresolved ...

Cosmic-Ray Induced Diffusion in Interstellar Ices
Cosmic rays are able to heat interstellar dust grains. This may enhance molecule mobility in icy mantles that have accumulated on the grains in dark cloud cores.

The Fractal Dimension of Projected Clouds
The interstellar medium seems to have an underlying fractal structure which can be characterized through its fractal dimension. However, interstellar clouds are observed as projected two-dimensional images, and the projection of a tri-dimensional fractal

Formation of Methanol via Fischer‐Tropsch Catalysis by Cosmic Iron Sulphide
Periodic quantum mechanical simulations evidence the potentiality to synthesise methanol through a Fischer‐Tropsch mechanism in different astrophysical environments facilitated by the catalytic properties of cosmic FeS grains, which are enhanced by the presence of naturally‐occurring point surface defects.
