Interstellar Now! Missions to Explore Nearby Interstellar Objects [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Space Research, 2022
Abstract The recently discovered first hyperbolic objects passing through the Solar System, 1I/’Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov, have raised the question about near term missions to Interstellar Objects. In situ spacecraft exploration of these objects will allow the direct determination of both their structure and their chemical and isotopic composition ...

The New Astronomical Frontier of Interstellar Objects [PDF]

open access: yesAstrobiology, 2022
The upcoming commencement of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will greatly enhance the discovery rate of interstellar objects (ISOs). ‘Oumuamua and Borisov were the first two ISOs confirmed in the Solar System, although the first interstellar meteor was detected earlier.

Interstellar objects outnumber Solar system objects in the Oort cloud [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters, 2021
ABSTRACT Here, we show that the detection of Borisov implies that interstellar objects outnumber Solar system objects in the Oort cloud, whereas the reverse is true near the Sun due to the stronger gravitational focusing of bound objects. This hypothesis can be tested with stellar occultation surveys of the Oort cloud.
