Diagnosis of Interstitial Cystitis
Journal of Urology, 1990We reviewed clinical and histological findings in 55 patients with interstitial cystitis and 21 with voiding dysfunction secondary to other pathological conditions. The Histology of Interstitial Cystitis
The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 1990Several studies have reported histologic findings in interstitial cystitis (IC) bladder biopsy specimens. However, these studies used a variety of criteria to define IC, which may explain the variation noted in the histologic changes. Clinical experience shows that these biopsy specimens are often not helpful in confirming the diagnosis.

PATHOLOGY OF INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS
Urologic Clinics of North America, 1994Morphologic changes, including light microscopy and ultrastructural, immunologic, and immunohistochemical findings in interstitial cystitis are described. The results indicate that biopsies are useful as an aid in the diagnosis of interstitial cystitis.

Interstitial cystitis is an uncommon disease reported predominantly in females. Recently we were involved in the management of 4 men who had the clinical, endoscopic and pathological features consistent with the diagnosis of interstitial cystitis. The rarity of occurrence of the disease in males prompted us to report these cases.

THE ETIOLOGY OF INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS
Urologic Clinics of North America, 1994The cause of interstitial cystitis remains unknown. Potential causes including infection, vascular alterations, psychological aberrations, bladder surface alterations, toxic agents, neurologic disorders, and autoimmune responses have been investigated. To date, no compelling evidence for any hypothesized cause is available.

Pentosanpolysulphate for interstitial cystitis
International Urogynecology Journal And Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, 1997Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a chronic disease of unknown etiology which primarily affects women aged 40-60 years. Many plausible theories for the development of IC have been postulated, and one current theory is that these patients have a quantitative and qualitative defect in the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer of the urothelium.

Pathophysiology of interstitial cystitis
Current Opinion in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2000Despite being described over 80 years ago, interstitial cystitis remains a disease of undetermined aetiology and poor treatment outcomes. Generally agreed diagnostic criteria of this condition, which occurs primarily in females, are frequency, urgency and pain, a low-capacity hypersensitive bladder, and mucosal haemorrhages and tearing on bladder ...
