Impact of Early Surgery on Clinical Outcomes of Super‐Aged Patients With Hip Fractures: A Retrospective Propensity Score‐Matched Study With 2‐Year Follow‐Up

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 533-543, March 2026.
Early surgery (< 48 h) in super‐aged hip fracture patients reduces 1–2 years mortality, complications, hospital stay, and costs, supporting timely intervention protocols. ABSTRACT Objective The global aging population has led to a significant increase in hip fractures among elderly patients, posing substantial clinical challenges.

Comparison of parallel or convergent proximal schanz screw placement of pertrochanteric fixator in intertrochanteric fracture model [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Sciences, 2017
Intertrochanteric femoral fractures are serious traumas among elderly patients. In these patients, external fixator is a preferable method for the fixation of fractures. Therefore, this study was planned to compare the parallel and convergent proximal

Pseudoaneurysm of the internal iliac artery caused by proximal femoral nail antirotation following intertrochanteric fracture: a case report

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Pseudoaneurysm of the internal iliac artery is a very rare complication of intertrochanteric fracture. Here, the case of an 88-year-old female patient, who presented with intense pain following surgery for intertrochanteric fracture of the femur, is ...

Biomechanical analysis of the placement of fixation lag screw in different intertrochanteric hip fracture angles

open access: yesBiosurface and Biotribology, 2019
The common surgical method for fracture fixation in the femoral neck and intertrochanteric region is the implantation a dynamic lag screw into the femoral head.

Comparison of the Dynamic Cut‐Out Failure Modes of Common Proximal Femoral Fixation Devices Using a Mesh‐Free Computational Method

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Research, Volume 44, Issue 2, February 2026.
Migration and cut‐out of DHS, Gamma3, PFNA‐II, and TFNA were compared under dynamic loading in a stable intertrochanteric fracture benchtop foam model and a mesh‐free simulation. No significant differences in force at cut‐out were observed, but simulation revealed that the volumes of damaged bone foam were 15%, 32%, and 25% higher for the Gamma3, PFNA,

Outcome of intramedullary nailing treatment for intertrochanteric femoral fractures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, 2019
Abstract Introduction The OTA/AO type 31 A3 intertrochanteric fracture has a transverse or reverse oblique fracture at the lesser trochanteric level, which accentuates the varus compressive stress in the region of the fracture and the implant.

Double Reverse Traction‐Assisted Versus Traditional Freehand Closed Reduction With Hexapod External Fixator in Treating Open Tibial Shaft Fractures: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 2, Page 279-288, February 2026.
Double reverse traction‐assisted apparatus. ABSTRACT Objective Open tibial shaft fractures (OTSFs) pose significant therapeutic challenges due to high‐energy trauma, extensive soft tissue damage, and contamination risks, complicating fracture stabilization and increasing infection rates.

Six-part classification of femoral intertrochanteric fractures

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract PURPOSE 3DCT data is currently insufficient for classifying femoral trochanter fractures. A novel classification approach for the six-part categorization of femoral intertrochanteric fractures was proposed based on 3D-CT images and fracture stability analysis in this study.METHOD From January 2009 to December 2019, 320 patients ...

NT‐proBNP With Postoperative Complications and 2‐Year Mortality Among Hip Fracture Patients: An Observational Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 2, Page 368-381, February 2026.
Preoperative NT‐proBNP is strongly associated with both postoperative complications and 2‐year all‐cause mortality among patients who received hip fracture surgery. Higher levels of NT‐proBNP before surgery may serve as a useful biomarker for risk stratification and guiding treatment decisions for this patient subpopulation.

Effects of aminocaproic acid on perioperative hidden blood loss in elderly patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture treated with proximal femoral nail anti-rotation

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2019
Objective To determine the efficacy of aminocaproic acid on perioperative hidden blood loss (HBL) in elderly patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture treated with proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA).
