Automated verbal autopsy classification: using one-against-all ensemble method and Naïve Bayes classifier [version 2; referees: 2 approved]

open access: yesGates Open Research, 2019
Verbal autopsy (VA) deals with post-mortem surveys about deaths, mostly in low and middle income countries, where the majority of deaths occur at home rather than a hospital, for retrospective assignment of causes of death (COD) and subsequently evidence-

Deaths ascribed to non-communicable diseases among rural Kenyan adults are proportionately increasing: evidence from a health and demographic surveillance system, 2003-2010.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
BackgroundNon-communicable diseases (NCDs) result in more deaths globally than other causes. Monitoring systems require strengthening to attribute the NCD burden and deaths in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Causes and circumstances of maternal death: A secondary analysis of the community-level Interventions for pre-eclampsia (CLIP) trials cohort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Background: Incomplete vital registration systems mean that causes of death during pregnancy and childbirth are poorly understood in low-income and middle-income countries.

Measuring causes of adult mortality in rural northern Malawi over a decade of change [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Health Action, 2014
Background: Verbal autopsy could be more widely used if interpretation by computer algorithm could be relied on. We assessed how InterVA-4 results compared with clinician review in diagnosing HIV/AIDS-related deaths over the period of antiretroviral (ART)

Distribution of cause of death in rural Bangladesh during 2003–2010: evidence from two rural areas within Matlab Health and Demographic Surveillance site [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Health Action, 2014
Objective: This study used the InterVA-4 computerised model to assign probable cause of death (CoD) to verbal autopsies (VAs) generated from two rural areas, with a difference in health service provision, within the Matlab Health and Demographic ...

Fluctuations in alpha and beta power provide neural states favourable for contextually relevant anticipatory processes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 58, Issue 6, Page 3450-3465, September 2023., 2023
Sensory disturbances within our natural surroundings impact anticipatory processes to varying degrees. A reduction in the N170 was observed solely when expected images directly followed their cues. This expectation‐facilitated effect disappeared when expected faces were preceded by an interfering face.

Causes of neonatal mortality using verbal autopsies in rural Southern Nepal, 2010-2017.

open access: yesPLOS Global Public Health, 2022
The burden of neonatal mortality remains high worldwide, particularly in South Asia. Verbal Autopsy is a method used to identify cause of death (COD) where vital registration capabilities are lacking.

Treatment and survival of patients with malignant ovarian sex cord‐stromal cell tumours: An analysis of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Gynäkologische Onkologie (AGO) study group CORSETT database

open access: yesJournal of Surgical Oncology, Volume 128, Issue 1, Page 111-118, July 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Malignant sex cord‐stromal cell tumours (SCST) account for only 7% of ovarian malignancies. The Arbeitsgemeinschaft fuer Gynaekologische Onkologie (AGO) study group has established a clinicopathological database to provide an overview of the current treatment strategies and survival of SCST patients and to identify research needs ...

A sequence‐based foldability score combined with AlphaFold2 predictions to disentangle the protein order/disorder continuum

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, Volume 91, Issue 4, Page 466-484, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Order and disorder govern protein functions, but there is a great diversity in disorder, from regions that are—and stay—fully disordered to conditional order. This diversity is still difficult to decipher even though it is encoded in the amino acid sequences.
